Having agreed on a time to meet with Mylene that evening, Yae-hime returned to the unfinished building and logged back into the game.
“Master, welcome back!” The moment she appeared on the bed, Little Blue flashed over to her side.
“Everything’s been fine here, right?” Yae-hime asked as she got to her feet.
“With me around, there hasn’t been a single problem!” Little Blue declared proudly. She wasn’t exaggerating. With her localized surveillance capabilities, keeping track of everything happening in a small village was ridiculously easy.
“Good. How’s the repair work progressing?” Yae-hime asked again.
“Naturally, everything’s going extremely smoothly!” Little Blue said, planting her hands on her hips and lifting her chin proudly.
Yae-hime nodded and fell silent. As long as the Apostles didn’t come knocking, the village was unlikely to face any danger. Her only concern was that the bishop might suddenly attack and turn the village into a battlefield, causing unnecessary casualties.
From the current situation, however, it seemed the other party had no such intention. Or perhaps he was simply still preparing for the assault. Either way, with Zerene standing guard, she felt relatively at ease.
“I’m going to take a look around the village. Stay here and supervise the work.” Even so, Yae-hime felt it would be better to inspect things personally. Besides, she had nothing better to do. Her penalty time was going to be quite long, and she needed something to pass the time.
A flash of white light enveloped her, and she appeared inside the guest room of the village chief’s house.
At that moment, Zerene was sprawled across the bed in a starfish pose, looking unbearably bored. The instant she sensed Yae-hime’s presence, however, she sprang upright. Then she launched herself forward.
“Hime, you’re finally back! I was bored to death!”
“Hehe, I’ll take you to find something to eat.” Yae-hime caught her in her arms and held her close as she smiled.
“Mhm! I want food!” The little girl switched moods faster than flipping a page. Moments ago she had been sulking, but now her face was filled with bright smiles.
Most of Aoma Village’s residents were currently isolating themselves at home, so snack shops and eateries were naturally closed. Yae-hime brought Zerene to the church. After explaining the situation, a cleric escorted them to the dining hall.
Throughout the journey, the cleric’s body trembled uncontrollably while her heart pounded wildly in her chest. In her eyes, having the opportunity to personally host Lord Angel for a meal was an honor she would cherish for the rest of her life.
The church’s dining hall wasn’t particularly large, but it was lavishly decorated. The tables and chairs, crafted from marble and precious metals, were exquisitely made.
Because of Lord Angel’s arrival, all of the dining hall staff were visibly excited. After everything that had happened over the past two days, Yae-hime had already become a somewhat deified figure in their hearts.
After a short wait, staff members brought over an exquisite lunch. Yae-hime didn’t eat. Instead, she sat quietly and watched Zerene slowly finish both portions by herself. The sight felt very much like watching a small animal eat, making it strangely soothing and heartwarming.
After lunch, Yae-hime and Zerene moved to the main hall, where they happened to encounter Priest Micha returning from outside.
“Lord Angel, good day to you!” He bowed respectfully and greeted her.
“Mm, good afternoon.” Yae-hime gave a slight nod. Then she asked, “Has all the holy water been distributed to the surrounding towns and villages?”
“Yes. Thanks to Lord Angel’s blessing, all of it has already been delivered. Most patients who drank the holy water have fully recovered. The more severe cases will require another one or two treatment courses.” Priest Micha replied with a serious expression.
“Very good. Have any suspicious individuals appeared in the nearby towns recently?” According to Yae-hime’s estimates, as long as the Apostles didn’t stir up trouble, all traces of the virus could be eliminated within another ten days.
The reason it would take that long was entirely due to transportation distances. There was also the issue of bottle costs. The more remote the location, the more expensive the containers became. Whether the local lords could allocate sufficient funds for those expenses was another matter altogether.
“No. Because of the epidemic, nobody has been approaching the surrounding settlements lately,” Priest Micha replied.
“That’s good.” Though she said so, Yae-hime still felt somewhat disappointed. After all, if the Apostles didn’t come cause trouble, she would have no way of gathering more Holy Spirit Shards.
After leaving the church, Yae-hime encountered Angelica on the road back to the village chief’s house. The latter was sitting in the passenger seat of a cargo beast carriage.
“Prin… Lord Angel!” The moment she saw Yae-hime, Angelica nearly addressed her incorrectly and hurriedly corrected herself.
“The materials I requested have been purchased?” Yae-hime lightly tapped the ground and drifted through the air toward her. The sight nearly caused the carriage driver to drop to his knees right there on his seat.
“Reporting to Lord Angel, we’ve gathered about half of the required materials already.” Angelica replied while bringing the beast carriage to a stop.
“Oh, that’s excellent news.” Yae-hime’s eyes brightened with delight.
“Hime, did you buy anything fun?” Perched on her shoulder, Zerene asked with great interest.
At that moment, the two of them gave Angelica the impression of a pair of sisters who shared an exceptionally close bond. Both had black hair and black eyes, both possessed exquisite beauty, and both radiated an air of mystery.
“They’re materials for repairing the City of Chaos, not anything fun.” Yae-hime replied.
“Oh.” Zerene instantly lost interest.
“Lord Angel, we should be able to gather the remaining materials by around noon tomorrow.” Angelica said.
“Mm. Gather as much as possible for me. Money isn’t an issue. Paying above market price is perfectly acceptable.” Considering that the City of Chaos would eventually have to leave the Saint Demon World, and might not return for a long time, Yae-hime had no choice but to prepare in advance.
Fortunately, all the materials she had asked Angelica to collect would ultimately be converted into energy for the City of Chaos, so there was no concern about being unable to bring them back.
“Understood, Lord Angel.” Angelica nodded in response. At the same time, she secretly resolved to do everything in her power to gather even more materials for Princess.
After having Little Blue teleport the materials back, Yae-hime and Zerene returned to the village chief’s residence. By then, Aurora and Layna were already seated in the living room, enjoying tea and snacks.
After chatting casually with everyone for a while, Yae-hime returned to the City of Chaos and logged out. Since she finally had some free time, she needed to stay informed about developments in the outside world as well.
The future had already changed completely. Every step she took from now on required the utmost caution and careful planning.
At the same time, in the main hall of the church in Jade City. Gurant stood silently as he looked at the clerics lying on the floor, receiving treatment from priests. There was no expression on his face. His indifference was almost frightening. It was as though he did not care in the slightest about these subordinates who had been injured.
Yet everyone present could clearly feel a terrifying aura of killing intent slowly spreading from his body. The treatment had been ongoing for quite some time, but the results were far from satisfactory. With only priests attending to them, there was simply no way to heal such severe crushing fractures and extensive muscle trauma.
It was obvious that they had been injured by someone wielding unimaginably terrifying strength.
“Good. Very good. Impostor, you’ve successfully caught my attention.” Gurant said with a smile that never reached his eyes. The next instant, the murderous aura surrounding him grew even more terrifying, sending chills down everyone’s spine. It was difficult to imagine that a bishop who represented holiness could emit such sinister and horrifying killing intent.
“Lord Bishop… don’t… don’t do it… that was… the real divine envoy…” Sensing Gurant’s killing intent, Tongulas slowly opened his eyes and forced himself to speak. Even now, undisguised fear remained etched across his face.
That envoy was simply too terrifying!
“What did you say?” Gurant could hardly believe his own ears. The so-called impostor was actually genuine? How could anyone possibly believe such a thing? After all, in an age abandoned by the gods, how could a true divine envoy still exist?
