「Nonetheless, Puppet Sorcery… Is there actually someone capable of teaching that to begin with?」
「There is.」

Ciel replied curtly to Carol’s question, and she had an interested look in response.

「Would it be fine to ask who it is?」
「She’s a teacher named Semiette.」
「… Never heard of her.」
「Do you know all of the teachers in the academy, Carol?」
「Not at all. I’ve been to Ausente’s academies before, but I wasn’t there to study as a student. I’ve only been to their document archives, so it’s not like I have many acquaintances there either.」

While Ciel and I aren’t any better, that sounds very in character for Carol. She was likely focused on simply searching the academy archives for information she wanted, not bothering to interact with anyone at all.
Especially with things outside her field of expertise, perhaps it’s all the more reason for her to not have thought of forming personal connections.

However, with her calling it ‘academies,’ there’s a chance that she has not only visited our second academy but the first academy where heirs are mandated to study.
I have no idea how different the document archives of the first and the second academies are, but I have a hunch that the first academy’s have more valuable documents.

「I have no idea how capable this Semiette is, but wouldn’t academy lectures feel a bit lacking at your level?」
「Not really. Sorcery aside, I’ve learned a lot about general weapon handling and such.」
「Weapon handling, eh.」
「With the nature of my Job, it’s convenient knowing how to use weapons.」

It appears that Carol questions the fact that Ciel uses a weapon―a sword―but for a sorcerer, Ciel is certainly very mobile for a sorcerer.
There likely aren’t many Jobs that use both sword and sorcery, and now that I mentioned it, I don’t think Carol knows what Ciel’s actual Job is.

I’m doubtful anyone would think of the Dance Princess as a flexible Job that can be utilized with both sorcery and close combat.
Thanks to that, no one has noticed that Ciel is a Dance Princess, and if everyone were to know how flexible it can be in battle, they probably wouldn’t call it an Unfortunate Job.
I even suspect that Dance Princess isn’t an outlier; every Job classified as Misfortunate Kings and Princesses probably has uses outside of entertainment depending on how they’re utilized.

The Song Princess would probably see popularity if we opened up a healing facility in town, for example.

「Enough about weapon handling, what about sorcery?」
「Sorceric Tool Crafting is really interesting, you know? Ain makes such amusing things, after all.」
「That certainly jogs my memory. Some of her sorcery, if converted into sorceric tools, would really be in high demand. Especially the one for drying hair; if that is successfully made into a sorceric tool, it’ll undoubtedly be a mouth-watering product for the ladies.」
「Convenient, isn’t it? It feels very pleasant whenever Ain uses it on me. It’s so fun, it always cheers me up.」
「I was aware of it, but you do really love her.」

Carol replied, not even trying to hide her disbelief, but Ciel cheerfully responded, 「Of course!」 without being bothered one bit.
Though I say cheerfully, she wasn’t loud enough to attract attention; the ladies at the tables around us continued to enjoy chatting with each other.

「Still, since you’ve also taken Sorceric Tool Crafting, isn’t it somewhat unnecessary to enroll in Puppet Sorcery, too? It is a type of sorceric tool, isn’t it?」
「While that’s partly true, I need to learn Puppet Sorcery itself.」
「So you’re seeing potential in it, huh. Still, is Puppet Sorcery so capable for you to find worth pursuing?」
「But isn’t there a hunter that is famous for using Puppet Sorcery?」

Ciel was frankly too obvious with her hint, but I don’t think it’s good to directly mention Munyechka, so I guess this is a good middle ground.
Besides, I’m also curious about just how known Muyechka is. At the very least, the Ausente Hunter Guild should be aware of her. Central’s upper brass must know about her as well.

Then how about A-rank hunters like Carol?

「I’ve heard from rumors, at least. One of the few S-rank hunters in history, capable of commanding puppets that can rival an army on their own, this hunter is said to be more powerful than the average nation in terms of war potential… However, that was a century ago.」
「If it’s just a century, couldn’t they still be alive?」
「True; there is a chance that they’re an elf or other long-lived race.」

Rather than being from a long-lived race, she’s just unaffected by aging due to magic, but that’s not for us to answer.
Carol doesn’t sound sure of her existence, so perhaps the information on S-rank hunters isn’t well circulated in the public. Or perhaps one hunter knowing another’s current status is more unusual.

「In that case… I’m a bit interested in this academy teacher you’ve spoken of.」

*’To think that there’s someone connected to an S-rank hunter,’* she whispered before showing a beautiful smile.
I’m not actually sure if she said that verbatim, but that’s how it felt. She hasn’t realized that we’re technically connected to that specific S-rank hunter.

「Come to think of it, how is the progress with your Jobs? Has she managed to connect it to her barrier?」
『That sounds like a question for me.』
『Then I’ll switch out now.』

Before I could respond, Ciel switched with me.
I suddenly gained control of the body, but I’m used to the sensation at this point, so it’s not really much of a problem. The truth is, when we were still at Rispelgia’s mansion, Ciel’s body would freeze for a moment whenever we switched, but thankfully no one was there around us, so it wasn’t an issue.

「The truth is, I haven’t made much progress. I have been able to strengthen my barrier through a different approach, so there really isn’t much urgency to make it work as well.」
「… I really can’t get used to it.」

Translator's Note

And that ends this update! Nice to see our girls chatting it up. And the casual switch freaking out Carol, lol.

Continuing from last chapter, our girls are catching up, mainly talking about how things are going at school. You really know Carol’s a magic geek since she’s showing interest in puppet sorcery even though she, at her level, knows how ‘inefficient’ it is. Also, love how Carol immediately brought up Ain’s convenient spells when the topic of sorceric tools came up. Daily conveniences are a game changer, lol.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
