「At Tur’s level, I suppose *that* wouldn’t be much of a hindrance.」
Something caught my attention during the fight, so I borrowed Ciel’s body and talked to Tur.
Since there’s no need to stay mobile, I could just borrow Ciel’s mouth like earlier, but she wouldn’t allow it. You need to spend some actual time interacting with others,’ she said; without extra context, that just makes me sound like a shut-in.
Well, if Ciel ever so desires to be a shut-in, then I wouldn’t be against being a shut-in at all.
「But of course… is what I’d like to say, but it’s partly because of your power, Ainsel.」
「Even with that, I thought it would have been enough to immobilize you.」
「I’ve heard rumors about it, but the Song Princess’ abilities sound difficult to handle. Besides, use it a few more times and I’ll be able to break through that trick of yours.」
*’Ghahaha!’* The air shook under Tur’s hearty laugh. The sheer intensity serves as a reminder that dragons are one of the strongest classes of beings. Or maybe not; maybe it’s specifically Tur who’s on a different level.
Even amongst dragons, Tur is a milestone, having lived long enough to be cleansed of miasma. Even if he weren’t a dragon, I’m sure Tur would’ve remained a difficult opponent.
Now, time to reflect on the battle.
To completely immobilize the opponent, forcing them to watch and witness Ciel’s dance; in summary, that was the purpose of the trap.
And because this allows Ciel to spend a longer time preparing the final attack, this dance enables her to release the strongest attack we can muster.
「To begin with, strengthening the enemy you want to ensnare defeats the purpose of a trap.」
「Since Ciel is strengthened as well, I thought that would even things out.」
「Cielmer is not the caster of that capture trap anyway.」
「You could tell that much? Well, that just means that I was lacking in ability.」
The dull silver spheres floating in the air are influenced by Ciel’s sorcery, but they’re also formed by my magic.
Because of that, despite its sturdiness, hitting the spheres against Tur, or even a mere goblin, wouldn’t cause any damage.
「Using Ainsel’s combat-impotent magic power to compress Cielmer’s spell. An interesting idea, but such a complicated trick will inevitably have points of failure.」
「We did at least manage to make it work, so I’d consider it passable. Ciel performed very well, too.」
『I gave my all! I did!』
Ciel’s delightful giggle echoed in my head like the ring of a small bell. She sounds relatively cheery for someone who gave it their all, but since it’s her personal growth that made this possible, I responded, 『I’ll need to work hard not to fall behind Ciel.』
Ciel immediately replied, 『Ain is always amazing, you know?』 So I whispered, 『Thank you very much,』 while feeling a bit embarrassed.
As for the full description of the dance earlier, I enclosed Ciel’s sorcery with my magic, and through the synergy of the Song Princess and Dance Princess’ power, we compressed Ciel’s spell to its limits. At this point, Ciel can continue using her sorcery through my magic, but apparently this is extremely difficult.
At the very least, it needs enough skill that Ciel prior to arriving at Central wouldn’t be able to achieve this.
Finally, I release my magic, freeing Ciel’s spell with an explosive burst of power; that’s the concept for this dance.
As this was being prepared, the dull silver spheres surrounded the enemy and floated still in the air, functioning as a prison keeping them trapped.
Keeping the spheres still was my role, so Tur being able to move was undoubtedly on me for lacking in power.
Even with the Song Princess’ enhancement, it shouldn’t be easy to move them―I thought it was theoretically impossible―but now we know that it can actually be moved by force.
I have no idea if other beings are capable of such a feat, but since Tur exists, I can’t afford to be complacent and cut corners.
Wait, since we’re already here, I can just ask Tur.
「Do you know beings at the same level as you, Tur?」
「Fiiyanamia… is not exactly my equal, admittedly. I can’t say for sure since I’ve been in the depths of this den for so long, but there were beings as powerful as I… However…」
「However?」
「If they haven’t changed since, as long as they are captured by that trick earlier, they should be rendered immobile.」
In other words, there are several beings in the world that would be difficult to capture or land a decisive strike on even when captured.
「Do you know beings more powerful than you?」
「Only Fiiyanamia. Besides, while trying to win against them would be a chore, I’d never be defeated.」
「Then that’s a relief… I suppose.」
「Such unneeded concern.」
Tur snorted, but there’s no harm in preparing for the worst. After all, being only capable of defending, if my barriers are ever breached, there’s nothing I can do.
「Well, what’s your plan next now?」
『Let’s play again! Let’s!』
Ciel responded to Tur’s question.
It seems like the earlier battle was very enjoyable.
Seeing Ciel behave like this is unusual; it’s somewhat heartwarming.
「Ciel wants to play one more time, it seems.」
「Then it can’t be helped.」
Despite his words, Tur immediately took a battle stance, so perhaps he’s enjoying this as well.
◇
「It’s been a while since you’ve handed in a magic pouch like this. I’ve received the goods.」
Since we were at the den, we’ve traded in the monsters we’ve defeated at the Hunter Guild. Our―or rather, Ciel’s―existence is well-known in Central’s guild, so Celia-san, of course, and the other hunters around didn’t show excessive reaction.
There’s mostly a ‘Oh, she’s back’ sort of response.
As Celia-san said, it’s been a while―several months, in fact―but it seems like it hasn’t been long enough for her to have forgotten us.
Well, considering that among every hunter in the Central Hunter Guild, we’re the ones they have to pay the most attention to, I guess we’re not that forgettable. I am aware we’ve acted conspicuously several times, though.
『Come to think of it, we really haven’t handed in any of our A-rank monsters; is that really fine?』
『Is it bothering you?』
『There’s a limit to people who can defeat A-rank monsters, you see, so I’m assuming that there wouldn’t be many A-rank materials to go around if we don’t give away some. It’ll be annoying if people hold a weird grudge against us due to this.』
And that ends this update! As always, the whole conversation with Tur really was like an old neighbor chatting with the kid next door, lol.
It’s a bit funny that even Tur finds Ain to be too paranoid, like, ‘Yes, beings on my level can be affected by your trick. No, there aren’t that many stronger than me. Stop worrying.’ Meanwhile, Ciel is just happy to be praised, adorable. I was also nice that Tur gave candid advice and criticism to the girls, accurately pointing out the flaws in the technique, while also acknowledging that it’s a complicated problem that originates from the nature of Ain’s Job and sacrifice condition. Also funny that he frankly admitted that Fiiyanamia is stronger, lol. With our girls being in the guild by the end of this part, let’s see what other developments there will be for the day.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
Btw, shameless shill time, but I’m also working on the new Project GB series~ For people who like seeing childhood friend romance, I highly recommend it~ We need more childhood friends winning, imo.
