In a single stride he was in front of Mira, swinging at her again. But he stopped himself and jumped back again. He had realized that it was not Mira standing there, but an illusion borne from Mirage Step. And before the illusion vanished, he had already found Mira’s true position and resumed his attack.
A moment later, Mira’s fist and the man in the coat’s claws collided.
There was more than just poison on those claws, as Mira’s Holy Frame let out bright sparks as its durability plummeted.
He saw that as an opening to attack, stepping forward again.
But that was of little help. Mira switched places with an illusion again, followed by a ring of black swords swinging at him from all directions.
“Hrung!”
He jumped back and swung his arms around in a serpentine way, knocking away all the black swords. Then he grinned, “I’ve seen this move once, it won’t work on me again.”
“Ohoh, so you can keep up with that too.”
His reaction speed was just as impressive as his strength, easily surpassing rank A adventurers. Knowing that only made Mira grin even more, which the man in the coat also took notice of.
“You’re still smiling? I guess that means you still have tricks up your sleeve then.” He stared coldly at Mira, slowly approaching her.
“Well, you could say that.”
Another Ashen Knight appeared before her as she spoke, stopping the man in the coat in his tracks as he quickly glanced into the distance.
Eagle was still being chased by five Ashen Knights.
“A sixth one? I heard there’s a limit to how many summons you can have out at a time, I wonder what yours is.”
“Oh I wonder what it could be.”
Summoners had been in a bad spot for a long while, but the man in the coat had done his research into them. That brought some joy to Mira, who grinned again while ordering her Ashen Knight to attack.
It leaped forward faster than a Dark Knight, swinging its greatsword with enough strength that it could split a mountain.
“Hmph!”
The man in the coat sidestepped it perfectly, following it with a powerful kick that sent the Ashen Knight flying into the air. Once it fell down, he kicked it again, this time making it crash into the walls.
“Please don’t think that’s enough to stop me.”
The man in the coat continued approaching Mira, still full of confidence.
This was the first time her Ashen Knights were defeated so easily, but that also did not discourage her.
If anything, it only made her maddened grin stronger.
“In that case, how about this?”
In defiance, as well as an experimental challenge, she summoned three Ashen Knights surrounding him.
The burly Ashen Knights were taller than the man in the coat, allowing them to stand imposing in his way.
But he just smirked.
“I see, so you can also summon them at the same time. And now there’s a total of eight, I guess the name of Queen did suit you after all.”
He looked alternatively between the Ashen Knights and Mira as he commented.
He was still measuring her power the entire time, trying to see just how far it went. All those Armor Spirits were powerful in their own right, so they seemed like her best asset.
What he knew so far indicated that she had spent most of her time strengthening her connection to Armor Spirits, making her stronger than any other summoner.
After checking all of his opponents, he went on the move. He stepped forward, swiftly but with power, like a gale. Then a shockwave, making everything shake. Whatever he had used made it seem like his presence grew, before the Ashen Knight in front of him was blown away.
Then he turned to the remaining ones, fighting them relentlessly.
But Ashen Knights were still resilient summons, while he was busy with the other two, the first one stood back up and joined the fight.
It was him against three again. While he had gotten rid of one with little effort at first, dealing with multiple at once was not so easy. Now he had to focus on defending himself as well.
The three attacked in succession, keeping a rhythm. Once he read what it was, he found a gap that was the perfect timing to counterattack.
His fervor, killing instinct, and strength combined into attacks like those of a cannon. A loud explosion, followed by a crash after some delay. An Ashen Knight had been kicked to the wall, shattering on impact.
“He even noticed that gap?”
Ashen Knights were still a relatively new creation. Dark Knights always fought offensively and Holy Knights focused on defense, Ashen Knights combined those fighting styles, so it was still hard to know when to lean on either of those.
Sometimes they would make the wrong choice or move clumsily, leading to gaps in their formation. And those gaps were currently being exploited.
Mira took a mental note of what to improve on the Ashen Knights, while noticing a change on the man in the coat.
“He seems different from before…”
It was like his vigor, presence, and mana had all intensified.
As Mira tried to figure out what happened, he went on the move again.
