When I opened my eyes, my room came into view. This was supposed to be something ordinary, and yet the moment I lost it, I was overcome with deep sorrow. No matter how much I ran, how hard I ran, darkness blocked my sight. I thought I would have to live my whole life carrying that fear.

But one day, the darkness that covered me suddenly vanished.

The moment that girl’s hand gently touched my eyes, light returned to them once more.
She seemed like an angel in my eyes.
And this is the story of my daily life with that whimsical angel.

“Phew… another exhausting day.”

The girl—Arje came back into the house looking sluggish. The benefactor who gave light back to my eyes.
When I helped her after she had collapsed on the road, I ended up being the one indebted to her instead.
She’s currently freeloading at my house, wielding her absurdly high-level, yet capricious, Healing Magic, to occasionally heal people’s injuries.
Having a level 10, a complete mastery, in Healing Magic despite looking so young speaks of how remarkable her abilities are.
Because of that, rumors about Arje spread in the blink of an eye. People suffering from serious illnesses and grave injuries came to visit her from all sorts of places.
One I particularly remember was an elven swordsman who came carrying a small mermaid girl on their back.
To think the rumors had reached somewhere that far away…
I found myself wondering what exactly happened to them, seeing how the elf’s metal armor had been torn to shreds. It was also my first time seeing a mermaid girl, and she was incredibly adorable.

Well, putting that aside.

Arje doesn’t just have healing magic—she has other wonderful talents as well.
She really is a girl full of mysteries.

“Welcome back. Good work.”

I called out to her, and she replied with a blank expression,

“Thank you. Well then, good night.”

—and that was that.

“Eh!? W-wait a second!”

I stopped Arje as she tried to slip into the mattress without any wasted movement.
I understand she’s tired and sleepy, but once she falls asleep, there’s no telling when she’ll wake up next. …And I mean it..
The other day, she casually told me that sleeping for an entire day was normal. Honestly…

“Fweh. What is it, Felnoute-san?”
“Sorry for stopping you, but at least eat your fill and take a bath before going to sleep…”

How many times have I said this already… honestly.

“Mmm… okay…”
“Then wait just a moment.”

I immediately cut my hand with the knife I was holding. After that, I let the blood flowing from the cut drip into a cup.

Arje is a vampire, so her meal is blood.

I won’t hesitate to offer my blood for my benefactor, but the person herself gets extremely startled every time I’m doing it, which makes it feel a bit strange.
It’s just a small act of gratitude, and I don’t think I’m doing anything odd, though…

“Here you go.”
“Thank you, as always…”

She gulped it down, then let out a “Pah…” as she caught her breath. The look of bliss on her face is adorable—truly cute.

After having Arje heal the cut on my hand, she quickly cleaned her body using her own magic.
That spell she just used is actually quite high-level as well…

“Well then, good night, Felnoute-san.”
“Ah…”

A voice slips out unintentionally.
Once Arje finishes what she needs to do, she usually goes to sleep right away.
She’s done everything she needed to do, so there’s no reason for me to disturb her sleep.

But…

She is a guest I haven’t had in a long time. Someone precious who appeared before me in tangible form, while I had been carrying the feeling of being alone all this time.
I want to talk more. I want to know more about her.

Before I realized it, Arje—who should have been about to get into the mattress—was tugging at my sleeve.
Startled, I stumbled slightly.

“W-what is it? Do you still want more blood?”
“N-no, that’s fine.”

Arje walked over to the bed and began patting the mattress.
What is she doing?
Is it dirty? I just washed the mattress today, though.

“Shall we sleep together?”
“Fweh…?”

The sudden question made a strange sound slip out of me.
I quickly covered my mouth and regained my composure.
With me…? Can I?

Wait, why did I even question it?! There’s nothing improper about two girls sleeping next to each other!

Still, it was surprising. Arje, who always falls asleep carefree on her own, stopping herself from sleeping to make such a suggestion…

“W-why all of a sudden?”
“Well… you seem kind of tired, Felnoute-san. I thought maybe it’d be nice to sleep together and take it easy for once.”

T-together…
For some reason, I can feel my face heating up.

Arje rubbed her sleepy eyes while continuing to pat the mattress, waiting for my answer.
I guess I am tired, but…

But, to think Arje was actually paying attention to me.
She looks absentminded, but she’s really very kind. It throws me off, honestly.
…That’s probably why I feel like I want to cherish her.

“If you’re okay with it, Arje… can I sleep next to you?”
“Go ahead.”

The soft smile she shows from time to time, despite her usual expressionlessness, stirs my feelings again.
She really is… cute.

I slipped into the mattress, and right beside me, Arje was looking at me.
It felt more comfortable than usual—truly warm.
I looked back at her.
I could properly see her cute figure. This kind of ordinary happiness feels so precious.

The reason I can feel this way is because of you, Arje.

“Su… suu…”
“She’s already asleep…”

I dropped my shoulders, deflated. Well, that’s fine.
If I said something like this out loud, she’d probably just stare at me and say, “What’s wrong?”

I gently bring my mouth close to her ear and whisper.

“Thank you, Arje…”

As if responding, Arje let out a small “Mm…” and turned over in her sleep.
Look at her, sleeping so peacefully, not even knowing how I feel.

“Good night. Sweet dreams.”
