“What should I do while Liana was out gathering the medicine? That would probably take a while.” Lilith pondered briefly before arriving at an answer. Right now, the most important thing was gathering information, whether it was about this world or about Liana herself.

“You’re called Old Huang, right?” Lilith turned toward the one-eyed, hunchbacked old man. “Could you take me to wherever the books are kept?”

Old Huang did not seem to be a man of many words. He merely cast Lilith a glance with his murky single eye, gave a faint nod, and silently began walking in a certain direction. As he passed by her, Lilith caught the faint scent of blood lingering on his body.

His left hand appeared to have suffered some kind of injury. It was wrapped in bandages, and faint stains of blood could be seen seeping through the cloth. However, the smell of blood on him did not seem to come from his own wounds, but from someone else.

Noticing Lilith’s gaze, he quietly hid his hand inside his sleeve. “Follow me,” he said. His voice was hoarse and grating, like two pieces of rusted iron scraping against each other.

“So much for Landon claiming he completely trusted me.” Lilith let out a faint laugh and shook her head. If he truly trusted her completely, sending an ordinary servant to accompany her would have been enough. Why bother assigning someone as intimidating as this to keep watch over her?

Still, Lilith did not particularly mind.

Following behind Old Huang, she wound through the Ye family’s sprawling estate, turning left and right through its corridors and courtyards. Occasionally they encountered maids or servants along the way. These people also seemed frightened of the one-eyed elder. The moment they saw him, they immediately lowered their heads and greeted him respectfully.

Old Huang neither nodded nor responded. He simply continued leading Lilith deeper and deeper into the estate.

Lilith could clearly feel the security around them growing increasingly tight. From time to time, watchful gazes emerged from the shadows, observing them cautiously. Yet the moment those hidden observers recognized Old Huang walking ahead of Lilith, the gazes instantly withdrew.

‘This Old Huang must hold quite a high position within the Ye family.’ Lilith thought to herself.

After passing through layer upon layer of guarded checkpoints, the two finally arrived before a massive tower-like structure. Lilith counted carefully. Nine floors in total.

“You may only read what is on the first floor.” Old Huang spoke in his rough, rasping voice. Then he led Lilith into the tower.

Before entering, Lilith noticed a sign hanging by the entrance that read:
Closed to Visitors. Entry Forbidden.

“Does this place even have business hours?” Lilith raised an eyebrow slightly before turning her gaze toward the interior.

Books. Books everywhere. Countless volumes were neatly arranged upon rows of ancient wooden shelves. Lilith could clearly see the marks of time etched into their surfaces.

And this was only the first floor. Above them were eight more levels. Although the higher floors of a tower would naturally be smaller than the base, the sheer number of books here was already staggering.

“As expected of a major landowning family.” Lilith muttered as she casually pulled a book from one of the shelves. “A first-tier cultivation manual… ‘Mountain-Cleaving Technique’?”

She stared at the bold, flamboyant characters written across the cover for a moment before realization dawned on her. No wonder the security here was so tight. This place was not merely a library. It was the Ye family’s repository of martial manuals and secret techniques gathered over generations.

“But cultivation manuals aren’t what I’m looking for.” Lilith said with little interest and slipped the book back into its place on the shelf.

“Techniques suitable for women are inside.” Old Huang suddenly spoke.

“Hm?”

“The techniques you want are inside that section.” Old Huang repeated himself. As if worried Lilith might not find them, he even pointed out the specific location.

“You don’t actually think I came here just to freeload on your Ye family’s manuals, do you?” Lilith said with an odd expression.

Old Huang frowned slightly. “Is that not the case?”

“Why would I bother reading that junk? I don’t even practice cultivation.”

“Junk…” Old Huang’s sinister expression froze instantly. In all his long years, this was the first time he had ever heard someone stand inside the Ye family’s treasured library, where countless people dreamed of gaining access, and casually refer to the priceless cultivation manuals as junk.

“Then… what do you want to read?”

“Hmm, let me think…” Lilith lowered her head and thought for a moment. “World history, cultural geography, maybe some gossip columns, celebrity scandals… and if none of those are available, even children’s introductory books would do.”

Lilith began counting on her fingers as she listed a long series of titles. Yet midway through her rambling, she suddenly noticed Old Huang staring at her as if he were looking at some kind of monster.

“What is it?” Lilith tilted her head and frowned. “Don’t tell me… you don’t have any of those here?”

‘Do they… really… don’t have any?’

Old Huang felt the cold, ruthless composure he had cultivated through countless killings nearly crack at that very moment.

Who in the world came to the Ye family’s Grand Library to read things like world history and cultural geography? That alone was strange enough, but she had even mentioned gossip columns and children’s books. What did she think this place was, a children’s bookstore?

Show some respect, damn it! Did she have any idea how many people had paid unimaginable prices and fought desperately just for the chance to spend a few more minutes inside this very place?

“Ahem… those things… I don’t know where they are.”

“You don’t know?” Lilith looked at him with open disdain. “Don’t tell me you really don’t have them. What kind of garbage library is this? It’s terrible.”

Old Huang: “……”

Did she realize that saying something like that out loud would get her beaten to death?

“You can… look for them yourself. But only on the first floor.”

“Look for them myself?” Lilith glanced around at the endless rows of books and scratched her head in frustration. “How long would that take?”

“Well… I’m afraid I can’t help you with that.”

“I see.” Lilith’s eyes spun thoughtfully as they darted around, clearly turning over some kind of idea. Suddenly, she turned to Old Huang and said, “Um… I don’t like people watching me when I read. Could you step outside for a bit?”

Old Huang: ???

She was just reading a book. It was not as if she were doing something embarrassing. Why act so mysteriously? His vigilance rose instantly. “What… are you planning to do?”

“Sigh, I didn’t want to resort to this, but if you refuse, then I have no choice.” Lilith spread her hands helplessly.

In that instant, Old Huang suddenly sensed a terrifying danger erupt from behind him. It appeared without the slightest warning. Cold sweat burst across his back. He immediately mobilized his spirit power to protect his body and roared, “Who dares attack me in the shadows?!”

But before he could even turn around, he felt a rod-like object effortlessly break through his defenses and smash heavily against the back of his head. Old Huang’s vision went black.

Despite possessing a heaven-shaking Ninth-Rank cultivation, he had not even managed to activate a fraction of it before being knocked flat to the ground with a single blow.

At the very instant he collapsed, he finally managed to turn his gaze behind him. What he saw was a familiar, smiling face. “How… can there… be two…?”

“Oh my, you were far too careless.” Lilith said with a kindly expression, “How could you relax your guard just because I’m only a little girl without spirit power?”

“Exactly, exactly.” The other *Lilith,* holding a black crystal bat, grinned mischievously. “Especially when I’m such a despicable little girl who devours people without even leaving the bones behind. Next time, make sure you remember that.”

“Though sadly, there won’t be a next time for you to remember.” Lilith dragged Old Huang over to sit against the wall so he would not block the path. Then she raised a hand and lightly brushed across the air. Black flames flickered as they erased the brief moment of his memory when he had been attacked.

When he woke up, everyone would be good friends again.
