Ever since the outing with Princess Leshimiiya―with Miss Leshy―she has been more openly talkative to us at the academy.
It’s mostly short exchanges, so it isn’t too conspicuous, but there may be some people who view it differently. The young lady Rulinia of the Hausen family, for example, is quite conscious of Ailneige when we chat with Miss Leshy.

Incidentally, I’ve also started addressing the princess as Miss Leshy when there aren’t people around. It’s only natural since I am also Ailneige, but it personally feels complicated for me since Ciel is the one who actually got closer with her.
Due to this, I did try calling her Miss Leshimiiya once, but she looked so sad about it, so that was the last time as well. It could end up being bothersome if other people hear us calling each other by nickname, but since Ciel regularly calls her Miss Leshy now, there’s nothing else I can do.

That said, while the princess has started talking to us more, Palra is still the one who talks to us the most, and just like every other day, I’m currently keeping her company.

「Bell and I talked about going to the Hunter Guild sometime; would you mind coming along with us, Ailneige?」
「The Hunter Guild, huh…」
「… I guess that’s a no?」

Perhaps due to my unsure response, Palra asked with a sad tone.
Belltina has also become relatively fit lately, so they should be able to complete beginner requests now. Even if they end up being a burden, they’d be safe as long as I’m with them.
That’s why I’m not particularly against it… But I should consult with Ciel first.

『What should we do?』
『Well, it should be fine, right? Or would you rather not, Ain?』
『I was just thinking that it’ll be troublesome if we bump into Alcrei when going to the guild with Belltina.』
『Hmm… Oh, that’s true.』

It took a few seconds for Ciel to recall him, but it’s already impressive enough that she actually remembered. In my previous life, I couldn’t even remember the names of all my classmates.

『Well, making them go by themselves is also worrying, so let’s accompany them.』

After saying so, I told Palra, 「It’s alright.」

「Thanks. Once we decide the details, I’ll update you again.」
「Please inform me as soon as possible.」
「Ah, yeah, that’s right. You have your own plans too, right? Ailneige.」

We could just discuss when we’re all present, but it seems like the two of them are training without me, and that’s when they decide things together. Since they went out of their way to do it in secret, it’s probably best not to force myself between them, so I’ll keep this idea to myself.
I’m sure they have their own reasons for practicing in secret; maybe they’re shy about being seen training hard?

And yet she invited Ailneige, so they must be a bit confident about their abilities now. If not, maybe they want our advice about something.
Reasons aside, since we’ll be going to the Hunter Guild, there’s one thing they’ll have to keep vigilant of.

「Since we’re going with Belltina, please make sure to keep the possibility of bumping into *him* in mind.」
「Ah, yeah, gotta be careful.」

Directing her gaze to Alcrei, Palra quickly understood my warning. After that, we reverted to the usual idle chat.

◇◇◇

In summary, the second academy’s first semester starts from April and ends in August, and we’re given a month-long break. The second term lasts from October to February, with March being another break. The cross-academic athletic meet with the first academy will be held during October, so we apparently won’t have proper classes during that time.
In other words, since summer divides the first semester from the second, many of the current classes are gradually approaching their end.

And for the Sorceric Tool course, it’s around this time for the students to finish their first sorceric tool.
Tietta managed to finish hers early, so she’s currently seeing if she can apply what she learned into making protective gear. Belltina still hasn’t finished her project, and I suspect that she’ll be cutting it close to the deadline. She does frequently doze off in class, but I guess that’s fine as long as she finishes in time.

And just now, a student who seems to be already finished with their project asked Professor Liens about the sorceric tools he has made.

「I’ve crafted many sorceric tools, but most of them aim to measure and examine. There are those that assess magic power quantity, spells, physique… and marriage compatibility, I guess.
I wanted to make a sorceric tool for identifying one’s Job, but it seems like it’s only possible for those with the Artificer Job. There hasn’t been much progress.」

He then started explaining the various difficulties he’s faced, and it was pretty enlightening.
Sorcery is capable of a wide variety of things, but it isn’t suitable for examining something and providing results in numerical value. In fact, it’s plain impossible.
No matter what spell I use, I can’t tell how many centimeters tall Ciel is. I can sense people with detection, but I can’t tell their weight and mass. Because of this, creating sorceric tools that function as measuring devices is, apparently, very difficult.

Since it can’t be measured in numerical value, a different indicator becomes necessary; for example, magic power capacity can be roughly measured by how brightly the sorceric tool glows when magic power flows through it. And so, how you turn your ideas into viable results will depend on your skill and creativity.

That aside, how do you even assess marriage compatibility between two people? Unless you can see the future, it’ll be hard to say, if you ask me.

Well, ignoring that, I honestly think that Professor Liens is very talented as an artificer.

Translator's Note

And that ends this update! Our girls are back in class, with Belltina maybe needing to make good progress in her project…

This update has been exposition for the most part, but we also get some focus on sorceric tools and the sorceric tools professor Liens. Ain seems to have some interest in the kind of person he is, which may come from being a fellow sorcery/magic researcher/nerd. Lots of magic nerds in this story (which I do like, lol). I also find it interesting how sorcery/magic isn’t good with making and showing precise measurements, magic can’t do math, apparently. You can probably instead make a spell that makes small pillars with the exact length of 1 foot/meter every time and pile them on top of each other for measurement, but again, that’s the caster being creative and not magic doing actual math. Also, it’s funny how Ain really tried to rollback and not use Leshy’s nickname. You can be really mean sometimes, Ain.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
