Based on the latest check-ins, the other teams were already in position as well. The arrest team and the police were waiting on the outskirts of the Tianping Commercial District, while the intelligence team and the command unit had disguised themselves as ordinary tourists.
The three-piece spy kit Qiaojue had brought was handed over to Shan-jie. She was the most familiar with the Tianping Commercial District, and having her coordinate directly with the command unit would save a lot of unnecessary explanation.
To help us pass as members of Rakshasa, Sharo also handed us two Tokkōfuku (biker gang jackets).
“These are my spare jackets. It might be a bit long on you, Shan-jie… but if you don’t button it up, you should still be able to wear it.”
One jacket had 夜露死苦(よろしく)1written on it, another read 愛羅武勇(あいらぶゆー)2and Sharo herself was wearing one embroidered with 喧嘩上等(けんかじょうとう)3 .
Honestly, I thought the outfit looked ridiculously stupid—and painfully tacky.
But Shan-jie unexpectedly liked them. Even though she didn’t say anything out loud, after putting it on she spent a long time standing in front of the mirror, clearly admiring herself.
Sure enough, people who become street thugs all seem to have questionable taste. This kind of bōsōzoku outfit, dripping with a heavy sense of a bygone era, probably doesn’t even exist in modern Japan anymore. Before you even feel afraid of them, you just start wondering if there’s something wrong with their heads.
That said, Sharo’s jacket really was too long for Shan-jie. The back hem of the coat nearly dragged on the ground—easy for someone behind her to step on, and easy to get dirty.
As for me, I quietly used the Notebook’s clothing-transformation function to pull a small trick, secretly hanging the 愛羅武勇 jacket she’d given me back into the wardrobe.
After that, we waited on standby at the Rakshasa base. At around two in the afternoon, Sharo received another call from Rashomon, this time informing her of the contact location for the meeting.
“Underground shopping street, D4 sector, in front of the Hyades4 Accessories shop.”
The underground shopping street was a tangled, three-dimensional network of passageways—the most complex area in the entire Tianping Commercial District. Anyone with a poor sense of direction would get lost the moment they went in. It wasn’t strange at all that Rashomon would hide their meeting place here.
Shan-jie tapped her brow thoughtfully and said, “D4? I remember that shop.”
“I’ll send a message to Rinka and the others.”
Both the walkie-talkies and the spy glasses had limited communication ranges, so the command unit had to stay nearby to keep in contact with us.
Outside the store, Lu Tao came out to see us off.
She said worriedly, “Are you sure you don’t need to bring some sisters along? Lingmeng-jie and Xiao Shan-jie don’t really look like they can fight… what if something happens?”
Huh? This little punk girl was actually worried about me and Lei Shan?
Sharo patted her chest confidently.
“If we bring too many people, they definitely won’t let us in. Besides, I’m here—what could possibly happen? Don’t worry about it. Go regroup with the others. If anything comes up on our side, I’ll contact you.”
As the leader of a major street gang that ruled its territory through both fists and brains, Sharo naturally carried a certain pride.
She was also quite capable in a fight. At the very least, that grip strength of hers was clearly trained. As long as she doesn’t run into a freakishly strong opponent like Meow Meow, ordinary small-time punks wouldn’t stand a chance against her.
After exiting the shop and turning left down to the underground level, with Shan-jie acting as our living map, it took less than five minutes to reach the rendezvous point at the Hyades Accessories shop. I hadn’t even had time to look at what the store sold before a man walked straight toward us.
He wore a black wide-brimmed hat, a floral shirt, a casual blazer, and sported a face full of scruffy stubble. His eyes were unfocused, like an addict’s, and he approached Sharo with a grin, cupping his hands in greeting.
“So this is Rakshasa’s leader, coming personally to attend the meeting? I’ve heard a lot about you.”
While he was greeting Sharo verbally, the corner of his eye was clearly drifting toward my chest and Lei Shan’s chest, his gaze filled with blatant desire. So this was what people meant by a “leering gaze,” huh?
It was… no, it was downright disgusting. Goosebumps broke out all over me. If not for the sake of the bigger picture, I would’ve loved to give him a Rider Kick straight to the family jewels.
Noticing my look of disgust, the man even licked his lips and said, “I’m Long Tao, squad leader under Rashomon. You can call me Tao-ge. The boss sent me to guide you.”
Sharo snorted coldly. “Guide us. I’m not interested in you.”
A mere squad leader expecting the head of another major gang to call him “ge”—Rashomon’s people were really getting full of themselves.
Seeing that Sharo ignored him, Long Tao didn’t get angry. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out three cloth strips.
“All right then. Please blindfold yourselves.”
I frowned. “We still have to wear blindfolds?”
“Of course. Even though we have information on Rakshasa, we have no intention of exposing our own base.”
Sharo sneered. “Hah. You talk about cooperating against the crackdown, but your actions show zero sincerity.”
Long Tao rubbed his hands together with a smile, his skin thick enough to completely ignore our displeasure.
“Relax. The boss promised that once the meeting is over, as long as Rakshasa is willing to cooperate, you won’t need blindfolds on your way out.”
“So if we’re not willing to cooperate, we won’t be getting out at all?” Shan-jie complained, but she still took off her glasses, hung them on her collar, and reached out to take the blindfold from Long Tao.
When Long Tao handed it to her and met her eyes, he actually flinched and drew his hand back slightly.
“Oh? This little sister’s eyes… pretty fierce.”
So he’d been intimidated by Shan-jie’s three-white eyes.
Rather than “fierce,” they were downright vicious. Those eyes inherited from Lü Le made her look like a professional assassin—she gave off a faint but unmistakable killing aura.
The spy glasses hanging from Shan-jie’s collar had a hidden camera embedded in the bridge, capable of transmitting live footage back to Xiao Cangyu’s computer. Through this, the command unit could monitor our route in real time.
Right now, they were probably sitting somewhere nearby in a drinks shop, calmly sipping tea.
I asked again, “Just the three of us? No other gangs attending this meeting?”
“Oh, the other gangs are being escorted by different squad leaders. Moving in large groups attracts the attention of undercover cops… you get it. Things haven’t been peaceful lately.”
Three people per gang, plus the escort—at most four. This dispersed method of entry really was discreet. Rashomon was being cautious.
But wasn’t walking around blindfolded even more conspicuous?
We’d probably end up being pointed at.
And our outfits were already eye-catching enough. Wearing these tokkō-fuku, if there really were plainclothes officers patrolling, we should’ve been flagged ages ago.
Before putting on the blindfold, Sharo warned him, “If you dare lay a hand on us, you’re dead.”
“Of course not, of course not. I don’t have the guts even if I had the thought,” Long Tao said, waving his hands exaggeratedly like an overacting TV drama character—clearly not taking her warning seriously.
I still decided to stay alert. While he was talking, I quietly pocketed the blindfold he gave me and had the Notebook create a strip of the same pattern—but thinner.
If I focused, I could vaguely see through it, like gauze.
The Notebook’s new function really was convenient. But this blindfold didn’t count as women’s clothing, did it?
Or was it that as long as it was worn by a female body, anything went?
Thinking about it… the Notebook really was surprisingly shameless.
As if worried we hadn’t tied them tight enough, Long Tao tugged on the blindfolds to check, then finally said, “All right, let’s go.”
The very next second, there was a sharp smack.
“Don’t touch me casually.”
It was Sharo’s voice. Looks like Long Tao had tried to get handsy and got slapped.
“Then… we’ll just use the cloth strips to lead each other, okay?”
In the end, Xia Lu held onto the strip in Long Tao’s hand, I held onto Sharo’s shoulder, and Shan-jie… Shan-jie tugged on the corner of my clothes. In a bizarre single-file formation that looked like kindergarteners playing train, we headed deeper into the underground shopping street.
Along the way, I secretly observed the route. The path Long Tao took was strange—full of deliberate detours, never retracing steps, and at one point even looping outside.
Because my blindfold was thinner, when we suddenly moved outdoors and the light changed, it caught me off guard.
I didn’t remember us climbing any stairs. Squinting through the mesh of the cloth, I realized we were on a riverside sightseeing walkway. Under the bridge on the opposite bank, I could faintly see the small riverside houses Fei-jie had rented.
There were hardly any tourist sounds here. We were probably near the end of the route.
“Watch your step, there are stairs,” Sharo suddenly warned.
Long Tao, who was supposed to be guiding us, didn’t say a word. He even clicked his tongue in annoyance, clearly hoping we’d trip.
The stairs rattled with a metallic vibration underfoot. The walls were rough and uneven, like bare brick without plaster or putty. The staircase was long, turning twice, the surroundings growing darker and darker.
Up ahead came the sound of Long Tao knocking, followed by a chime—probably a door bell.
Through the weave of my blindfold, flashes of colorful lights passed before my eyes, and the smell of alcohol rushed into my nose.
Behind us came the clang of a door closing, along with Long Tao’s sleazy voice.
“All right, ladies. We’re here.”
龙韬 Long Tao, his name is a pun to 龙套 which pinyin is also Long Tao, which means side character.
