“Ahh, this is heaven…”

Mira’s turn in the bath came as soon as Iris was done with hers.

Alma’s overprotective nature with Iris was visible in the bathroom as well, which was furnished more luxuriously than even the most expensive inns. There was even a jacuzzi there, which Mira thoroughly enjoyed.

Once she had enough, she headed to the bedroom. By then it was past eleven, time for good girls to be in bed. So Mira expected Iris would be asleep, prompting her to be very careful when opening the door.

“Oh, you’re still awake?”

The lights were on, and Iris closed the book she was reading, smiling happily as she saw Mira was back.

“I don’t want to sleep just yet.”

She was brimming with energy, all because of Mira.

“Mira, I heard you’re an amazing adventurer, right? Tell me more about that. I want to know what kind of work adventurers do, and how they live.”

Saying that, she held up the book she was reading, which turned out to be a textbook for adventurers.

After meeting Mira and hearing her stories, Iris had gained an admiration for adventurers as a whole.

But the focus of her questions showed that she had a more mature interest, approaching the topic more carefully.

Unlike a lot of other people who just dreamed about that life, she was more realistic. That left a strong impression on Mira, who also realized that she could not answer that properly.

Iris was likely asking about the regular adventurers who made a living traveling everywhere, quite different from Mira, who worked under direct orders of Solomon. Her connections had allowed her to start off at rank C, and then she jumped to rank A after fighting Chimera Clauzen. Without having to formally accept a single request given out by the Union.

Her lifestyle also differed from most adventurers.

Solomon would fund her, for both military expenses and a personal allowance. Lately, she also spent the nights in her spirit mansion instead of camping in a tent.

The more she thought about it, the more she noticed how different her lifestyle was from those of adventurers, even if she herself longed for that life. Even her rank was hardly legitimate.

With all that considered, Mira could not really use her experience to answer Iris’ question.

But Iris did not know any of that, as she continued to stare at Mira with anticipation.

“Hmm… Well, there’s various ways for adventurers to make a living…”

Mira could not bring herself to say she did not know when faced by Iris’ anticipation, so instead she spoke of the general knowledge she had.

She was careful to not embellish or fill in the blanks she herself was ignorant to, only speaking in broad terms.

“Sometimes various adventurers work together, and whoever has the highest rank is chosen as leader…”

She also recalled the interactions she had with other adventurers, using them as a template.

It was true that she was a rank A adventurer on paper only. But she had experience working alongside other, more proper adventurers, so that gave her at least some knowledge.

Iris’ question was also a general one about adventurers, so it was best to give her a broad response. There was no reason for Mira to reveal her own lifestyle or her past work.

Then again, Mira still decided to put on airs acting like she had a wealth of experience, acting like she also did everything she spoke about.

She learned a few things when traveling together with Bruce as well, so she spoke at length about the types of requests available for adventurers.

All the requests she had actually seen were meant for lower ranked adventurers, but as Iris knew hardly anything about them, she reacted with excitement to everything.

“…And that’s about it. It’s a world with large rewards, but also large risks.”

There were many sides to being an adventurer, and only a few were fun and exciting. It was not a line of work to earn a living, but to find something worth living for.

After relating everything she knew about adventurers, Mira wrapped things up with her own view of that lifestyle.

“That sounds incredibly cool!”

Her friends would call her out if they heard her say that, but Iris was the only person there, who admired Mira as a rank A adventurer.

So Mira’s words had a strong effect on the girl, whose bright smile took a more serious appearance as she muttered, “I wonder if I’ll find something like that too.”

Their conversation went on for so long that soon it would be midnight, and Mira could not repress her yawns anymore. While Iris was still full of energy.

“Can you also tell me about the strongest monster you’ve fought?”

Her curiosity was far from satiated.

(I was hoping she would fall asleep eventually, but it seems I’ll be the first one…)

Mira had noticed that she was getting sleepy faster ever since she turned into a girl. Being reminded of that, she replied, “Let’s leave that for tomorrow, it’s too late now,” and flipped the lightswitch. As the room was shrouded in darkness, she let out another yawn and slipped into her bed.

“Alright…”

Iris still wanted to hear more stories, so she sounded a bit let down.

Ideally, Mira also wanted to gloat about her accomplishments, but she could hardly keep her eyes open anymore.

“There’s always tomorrow and the days after that. This is barely my first day here.”

Mira pointed out that they would have plenty of time to talk in the future, which cheered up Iris as she happily said, “You’re right. I can’t wait for tomorrow!”

“The sooner we sleep, the faster we’ll wake up!”

A rustling sound indicated Iris had also gotten in her bed, deciding to sleep without complaining more.

(I have a long road ahead of me.)

Mira closed her eyes, thinking of stories she could tell in the future for only a bit, as she fell asleep much faster than Iris.

***

Far away in a certain small room.

There was a man sitting imposingly on a fancy chair. He was August, one of the highest members of Ira Muerte.

‘What gave you the idea of calling us? Do you understand the position you’re in?’
‘Our hands are already full now that Trulli is being hunted down. I’ll make you pay if you’re just wasting our time.’

Two irritated voices came from the device on a nearby table, who seemed fed up because of someone called Trulli.

“Yes, I know. I’m not that dense. Trulli’s hands are also tied because I’m being pinned down by Nirvana’s oracle, and I’m sorry for that.”

He apologized with an indifferent attitude, but there was a soft smile on his face.

That Trulli they were talking about was another of the top members of Ira Muerte. He was mainly in charge of Ira Muerte’s slave trade, but after August lost control of their trading routes, and with Trulli’s merchandise being on a timer, he had no choice but to attempt to secure his own trading routes.
