There is even one student who has already finished his own original sorceric tool. Apparently, he has the Artificer Job.
『How is it used?』
『You install it on a table and drape a comforter over it so the heat can’t escape. Even if this ends up being a success, it probably won’t be that popular.』
『Is that so?』
『This sorceric tool is made to be used without footwear, you see.』
In this world, people wear their footwear indoors, so even if I made a kotatsu, not many would probably utilize it.
I’ve heard that showing feet is considered immodest among aristocrats as well.
I think it’ll be difficult for people to accept something that could result in bumping into another person’s feet when your legs are outstretched.
So why am I making this, then? It’s because it seems easy to do.
『It should be fine to have one for personal use, right?』
『It will probably need a dedicated room for storage, you know?』
『In that case, that won’t be a problem for us. By the way, this is an object from Ain’s old world, right? What’s it called?』
『It’s a kotatsu』
『Kotatsu? Say, can I use it with Ain?』
With her mentioning it, I tried to imagine sitting with Ciel. Not a bad idea; rather, I’d like to do it in the future, and I kind of want to see the bed-loving Ciel not wanting to leave the kotatsu.
As a fellow bed lover, we’d probably end up sleeping next to each other in the kotatsu, though. Other than that, messing around under the table is a common cliché.
Depending on the size, there are cases where only one person can stretch their legs out, and even if it’s large enough to accommodate multiple outstretched legs, it’s still tempting to pull a prank on someone’s outstretched feet. Now I don’t know if I’d have it in me to do that to Ciel, but she’d probably mess with me like it’s nothing. She had previously professed that she enjoys troubling me, after all.
As I told all this to Ciel, she replied, 『I’m really, really looking forward to it!』
Since class is still ongoing, I ended our chat here for now and brought the finished magic circle and the kotatsu design outline to Mr. Liens.
◇◇◇
「I see. By using a thick blanket, it can provide plenty of warmth with only a small amount of heat, yes?」
「That’s right. Still, since the heat source is only by the feet, it necessitates the removal of one’s footwear, making its practicality is a bit questionable…」
「While it certainly would be difficult to popularize it, the idea itself is not bad. We do have colored lights consisting of a sorceric lamplight enclosed in tinted glass panels, which I think is conceptually similar. If we craft a chest built from effective heat-retaining materials, food transport could――Additionally, if we consider the cost-effectiveness of using low-grade magic cores――」
After showing my work, Mr. Liens entered his own world. The same thing happened with the hair dryer consultation, but whenever he gets excited by something, he apparently has a tendency to ponder to himself.
While that’s a bit of an issue as a teacher, I think it’s a good thing as a craftsman and a researcher. As a fellow researcher who pondered about barrier and detection sorcery―actually just straight-up magic―by my lonesome, I felt a sense of kinship, so I let him talk a bit until he was satisfied.
Still, since it was starting to take a bit too long, 「Mr. Liens,」 I called to him, causing him to snap out of it. He then looked my way and awkwardly scratched his nose.
「My bad, it was such a good idea; I couldn’t help myself.」
「I’m glad it left an impression, but our class time is limited.」
「Oh, yes. With that, you should be able to deliver a work that’ll pass with no issue. You can go ahead with that design.」
「Understood.」
「Incidentally, are you――」
As I was about to return to my seat, Mr. Liens spoke. However, after I turned to him, he said, 「No, never mind,」 while scratching his cheek.
It sounded like it’s something important, but if he doesn’t want to continue, then I won’t poke my head into this one.
After all, he probably has a reason for holding his tongue, so forcing it out would be troublesome.
Returning to my seat, Belltina was napping with her arm as a pillow. At first, I thought that she might just be feigning it to avoid speaking with Tietta, but she seemed to be really deep in sleep.
Tietta is seriously undertaking her work. It’s all nice and peaceful right now, so I decided to continue my mini-kotatsu as well.
◇◇◇
The class period ended, and the people have started thinning out, so I started jolting the sleeping Belltina’s shoulder.
「Ye-Yesh!」
She appears to be surprised about being woken up, as her voice was a bit hysteric. This attracted the eyes of the remaining people around. Noticing this, Belltina turned bright red and curled into a ball.
Still, their gazes only stayed for an instant, so no need to worry much about it. Honestly, though, I can understand her feeling.
「The class period has ended.」
「R-right! Thanksh for waking me uap!」
「It’s not a big deal, but are you alright?」
「Ah, umm. Bell is alright, yes.」
True, she does look alright, probably since she was just asleep, but still――After some deliberation, I decided to convey my sentiment.
「If you need an ear, I’ll at least hear you out.」
「Thanks… But I really am alright.」
Belltina replied with a slightly troubled smile. Considering how Palra asked us about sorcery some time ago, I’m really doubtful about her ‘alright,’ but I decided to step back for now.
「Understood. In that case, shall we have lunch then?」
Saying so, I started walking、 and Belltina toddled behind me. No, considering how we’re actually smaller in size, I’m probably the one toddling, to be honest.
And that ends this chapter! Poor Bell, lol, but it’s nice to know that our girls do look out for her. Also, seems like they’ll be having lunch together!
This time, other than Ain and Ciel chatting about the magical kotatsu project, we also got a glimpse of Mr. Liens’ personality. As to be expected based on his introduction, he’s really into sorceric tools and frankly gets easily distracted with innovation, lol. It was funny that Ain found the research obsession part to be relatable, but to be fair, Ain does get into her own head a lot. Though that’s mostly because she generally has nothing else to do when not in control. And again, it was nice to see Ain showing concern for Bell, that’s a good friend (?) right there.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
