The Snowfeather Goblins did not show hostility toward the Gray Wolves that Zane had imagined.
According to Yalu, they had once lived peacefully alongside the Snow Wolves in the snowy mountains. Because of their even-handed nature and fair treatment of outsiders, the Snowfeather Goblins had managed to survive in that harsh environment for so many years.
Zane turned his gaze toward the former Gray Wolf Alpha.
The old wolf gave a nod. “Child, you are now the chief of the Gray Wolves. Whatever you deem right, just do it.”
‘What? You’re just going to dump the whole mission on me and walk away?’ Still, there was no other choice, Zane had to see it through.
“Awwooooo—!” Throwing his head back, Zane let out a resounding howl that echoed across the plains, activating his skill to summon the pack.
At once, the Gray Wolves tensed and gathered around him.
“Warriors!” Zane’s voice thundered. “We may possess swift speed and unyielding pride, but in this age of chaos, those alone are no longer enough.”
The wolves all fell silent. Even the Snowfeather Goblins, along with the nearby humans and gnome, quieted down and watched.
“This migration has cost us many brothers and sisters,” Zane continued solemnly, “but it was unavoidable. If we had stayed in the Grayridge Plains, our descendants would have been enslaved by humans. Our fur would be stripped to make coats, our flesh carved into meals.”
“That is why we must find a new path.”
“This,” Zane raised his paw, pointing toward Yalu, “is the chieftain of the Snowfeather Goblins.”
Yalu leapt onto Morthar’s back. Streams of icy energy flowed around him, the nearby water elements gathering into his hand as if obeying his will.
“I have given it much thought,” Yalu declared. “And I have decided—to form an alliance with them.”
A stir of murmurs spread among the wolves. After a moment, Mick spoke up. “Does that mean… we’ll become their pets?”
That was the question that lingered in most of their hearts. After all, the Gray Wolves were only level-10 rare-rank creatures, while the Snowfeather Goblins were level-20 epic-rank monsters, far superior in every respect. If they so wished, they could wipe out the entire wolf tribe with a snap of their fingers.
“No!” Zane replied firmly. “I’ve already discussed this with them. In the Crimson Plains, both sides will hold their own territories and stand watch over each other. But mere words aren’t enough.”
He gestured toward Morthar. “He will remain here to aid you. During this time, you must grow stronger. The Snowfeather Goblins will also use this time to earn your trust.”
Indeed, Zane was referring to Morthar. He had already tested it, Morthar could not enter the Pet Space. And even after Zane logged off, the creature did not vanish.
Before coming here, Zane had ordered Morthar to move in a specific direction. After logging back in, he found that the beetle had reached the designated location. Moreover, Morthar could travel beyond the usual fifty-yard restriction of normal pets. Even when far away from its master, it remained safe. And with a single thought, it could instantly return to Zane’s side.
Hearing this, the wolves finally relaxed. Although the giant beetle looked terrifying, its loyalty to their leader was undeniable. With it around, they would no longer have to fear adventurers’ invasions.
And as proud wolves, they too had their dignity. Now that a new land awaited them, they needed to strengthen themselves. Otherwise, this migration would only repeat itself someday.
Mick lifted its head and shouted, “Chief! We won’t let you down!”
…
Thus, the discussion was settled.
After crossing through the Rock Maze, they finally beheld the land ahead. The ground reflected a crimson glow, and upon closer inspection, the soil was a mix of red and black.
There were barely any trees or vegetation. Far in the distance, a few tiny moving dots, likely wild animals, could be seen.
Although there were fewer enemies here, resources were scarce. Zane wondered if the wolves and goblins could truly build a new home in such a place. If they couldn’t survive here, they would have to move yet again.
At that moment, the familiar chime of the system rang out.
Suddenly, Zane felt his body swell uncontrollably as an indescribable force surged through him. When his senses returned, his perspective had risen noticeably; his height had doubled, maybe tripled.
From Starry’s point of view, his size had expanded to nearly three times his original form. He was practically a different species now.

“Swiftshadow Wolf!?” Zane froze, staring at the interface as if struck by lightning.
These three skills were clearly enhanced versions of the originals.
Lightning Rush, which originally only boosted movement speed, now carried a far stronger charge effect—175% instant damage! Combined with the massive speed boost, it meant he could dash around the battlefield, break line of sight, and utterly outmaneuver his opponents.
Tempest Field was a powered-up version of Storm Claw. What used to be a one-time area-of-effect strike had evolved into a continuous AoE ability that inflicted ticking damage, cutting through enemies over several seconds while also slowing their movements. And this external debuff factor couldn’t be removed by any form of Purify!
Then there was Summon Gray Wolves. Once a simple pack-summoning skill, it had evolved into a far more reliable summoning-type ability. Based on the description, as long as he signed contracts with three strong Gray Wolves, he could summon them as high-tier combat units. Even though the duration lasted only one minute, that essentially gave him three additional fighters, and if those wolves were strong enough…
Zane quickly dismissed the daydream. That was impossible. What could a few Rare-rank mobs possibly achieve? Realistically, this skill’s best use was to absorb enemy fire three times over.
Before he could check his full stats, the voice of the former Gray Wolf Alpha rang beside him.
“By the Wolf God… what am I witnessing!? The birth of a Swiftshadow Wolf!”
Mick’s voice trembled as he added, “I’ve never heard of any Gray Wolf evolving into a Swiftshadow Wolf before…”
Yalu, standing nearby, nearly lost his balance and fell over. He pointed at Zane in disbelief. “A Swiftshadow Wolf!? Evolved from a Gray Wolf!? That’s unheard of!”
“Uh…” Zane scratched his head awkwardly. He didn’t understand what was going on either!
While the others were still reeling in shock, Zane looked down at the skill book in his inventory.
