With a quick scan of the mountain area, I got a rough estimation of where creatures of a certain size are located. Because I stretched my detection thin to cover a wider area, I can’t distinguish between humans and monsters, so I’m just generalizing them as creatures for now.
Recalling our teacher’s words, the ones acting alone are probably goblins. The students seem to be following the obvious beaten path, as I currently don’t see any other party straying from that path like we are. The beaten path is sure to be the quicker and most reliable way to go, so we’ll probably be seen as irregulars. Among the teachers, we might even be considered more problematic than Alcrei’s party.

『Still, goblins acting alone should be quite rare, right?』
『That’s right. While one goblin might occasionally stray from their group, having multiple strays in an area is unnatural.』
『In that case, is there perhaps a Monster Tamer among the teachers back?』
『Very likely.』

We only have surface-level knowledge regarding the Monster Tamer Job. Monster Tamers are a familiar presence in games and stories. In those examples, tamers capture a monster to bond with as an irreplaceable partner, but that shouldn’t be the case in this world.
After all, monsters are born of miasma, it’s questionable if they even have free will and emotions. And even if they do, they probably can’t bond with humans anyway. It might be possible to attempt communication and bond with beings on Tur’s level, but former monsters are not common, and if it’s possible to tame them, you’d undoubtedly become one of the world’s greatest.

And so what I wanted to say is that it should be alright to defeat the goblins roaming in this mountain. While it may be a bad way to describe it, these goblins are probably compelled throwaway pawns.
And while they may wound you in battle, they probably can’t kill you. Considering that they’re used for this class, they’re likely ordered not to kill anyone.

Incidentally, I wonder what the Creator God thinks of controlling monsters when they should be defeated instead? There’s probably some conditions regarding this, but I guess it’s not something to contemplate now.
For the time being, since they’re still safe and I probably won’t be needed until later, I had Ciel ask Belltina a question. Actually, the two in front are too tense, they might tire themselves out too soon.

「Belltina, may we speak about your Job?」
「Ah, um… Yes.」
「Let’s have a short break while we’re at it.」

I don’t know if it’s just good timing, but Belltina has started to show exhaustion, so Ciel urged the group to rest. Noticing her name mentioned, Belltina was a bit startled; perhaps she was so focused to the point of not feeling her own exhaustion. I’ve concentrated to the point of ignoring exhaustion before, so I can relate. You think it’s still alright since you can still breathe normally, but then you’ve actually pushed yourself dangerously exhausted. It brings me back to that marathon I’ve run before. I was fine the whole time I was running, but the moment I stopped, it became painful to breathe and I lost strength in my legs, leading to them going numb. It’s surprisingly hard to be aware of when you’re straining yourself.
Ciel has stamina, so she rarely reaches the point of complete exhaustion, and I’ve always made her rest whenever she starts to feel tired when we’re working out of town, so Ciel doesn’t have much resistance to taking a break.

「Palra, are you alright?」
「I’m completely… No, I think I’m feeling a bit tired.」
「In that case, let’s take a break here. Once we finish resting, we’ll need to head back.」
「We’re going back?」
「Considering the time, the class period should be ending soon.」

Ciel glanced at the watch we had kept in our magic pouch and I saw that we should be able to return right before the end of the period. This is probably why she decided to inform them, but then Palra showed a look of surprise.

「Ailneige, you know the time? Could you tell from the sun’s position, or so?」
「I simply looked at my timepiece.」
「A timepiece… you have one?」

Watches are sorceric tools, so they’re quite pricey. While sorceric tools are cheaper in Ausente, maybe she just didn’t expect us to bring one along. Even among hunters, it’s not common to own one, since you can roughly estimate the time using the sun. For example, you start making camp as it gets dark and begin working as the sun peeks out.
Besides, you might be hesitant to move around too much in fear of damaging the watch, and there’s no point getting one if it just breaks.

「I have a magic pouch, you see.」
「Eh!」
「I received a small one from an acquaintance. Besides, since I work solo—although I’ve had a partner recently—I also have various other sorceric tools.」
「It must be tough being alone.」
「It’s not exa—… No, that’s correct.」

While it’s not particularly tough in our case, it’s hard to describe us as working alone. Our situation is uniquely different from regular people, so I’ve taught Ciel about what’s generally difficult to do normally. That must be why Ciel corrected herself.
I can feel Ciel’s growth in how conversations like these can now be left to her, but since there’s something I need doing that is probably still difficult for her right now, I asked to switch out for a short moment.

As for what it is, it’s to suggestively smile at Belltina. Putting aside whether I managed to do well, there was a need to apply silent pressure on Belltina, since she might have noticed that Ailneige doesn’t really have a lot of sorceric tools on her. We immediately switched back and continued the conversation.

「Now then, Belltina, is it alright if I share what your Job is?」
「Umm, yes.」
「Palra, I want you to remember this: Belltina is a Magic Eye Holder.」
「Magic Eye Holder?」
「It’s an extremely rare Job. In Belltina’s case, I believe it allows her to see magic power, correct?」
「Yes, Bell is able to see magic power.」
「Can see magic power…?」

Translator's Note

And that ends this update! We’re apparently still not finished lore dumping to Palra, lol! And it seems like our girls won’t be finishing the mountain climb this time around.

As Ain reflected on, we see a lot of Ciel’s growth on display this time. Fairly decent conversational skill, and caring and taking care of other people (Bell). The regular team-building activities with Mia really paid off, lol. Also, the magic bag and expensive watch is just going to worsen Palra’s curiosity, isn’t it? If I was on her place, I’d start to suspect this is all intentional, lol.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
