「First off, let me explain why we took so much time, Palra.」
「Is that something I’m allowed to hear?」
「It’s connected to Belltina’s circumstances, so it would be better for you to know.」
Saying so, Ciel gazes at Belltina. The sudden attention had her quivering for a moment before softly nodding. Palra audibly gulped; she had a serious expression, as if she was about to hear very important information.
It may seem like a very tense scene, but with us being in a tranquil forest with gentle sunlight peeking through the leaves, we only look like three girls playing around. It probably only seems like a pleasant time to the adults watching from afar, like that teacher over there who’s discreetly observing us. We’ve likely been under watch ever since we deviated from the obvious route Mr. Ishparht mentioned, right after the first fork near the entrance.
From this point onward, we’ll need to move in proper formation—which I plan to have Ciel suggest—but before that, it’s best to share information with the rest of the party. That’s why we chose a spot that’s hard for the other students to find.
「I didn’t want to bump into Alc… Um, Tweyezel? and Juerd.」
「Our classmates?」
「Palra, do you want to be close to them?」
That reminds me, Alcrei’s family name was Tweisel, wasn’t it? I’m impressed that Ciel remembered it, even if not completely, but I guess it’ll be more problematic if she doesn’t. He is the son of an Earl, after all; calling him by some weird nickname would be scary, and it’ll be annoying if people think we’re close if we call him by his first name, so remembering a noble’s name is important.
Now then, after hearing the names of Tweisel’s third son and Mr. Hero, and Ciel’s inquiry, Palra frantically shook her head in response. While it might be different for those who actively seek the favor of high-ranking nobles or royalty, for people like us who prefer a peaceful and quiet life, getting involved with such conspicuous individuals is the last thing we want. Besides, there’s always the risk that we simply won’t get along with them. Juerd, in particular, has a mindset that’s fundamentally incompatible with ours.
「Besides that… can I tell her what’s going on between you and Tweisel?」
「Ah, um, Bell will explain. It’s about Bell, after all…」
I’m honestly grateful that Belltina is going to explain it herself. The most we know is that she isn’t on good terms with Alcrei, or rather that Alcrei doesn’t think highly of Belltina.
Whether their friction is due to a personal issue or a family issue, I don’t know. And while I don’t know if Belltina is willing to share that much, we’ll still get a clearer picture of her situation.
「I see, Bell was also a noble…」
「Bell has been kicked out of home, so that’s no longer the case…」
While I can’t be sure when exactly the family will completely cut her off, I feel like she might still be technically a part of House Chilandia. Since they might find some utility for her during the course of her academic stay, I believe they’re still keeping a metaphorical leash on her. But for Belltina, she probably thinks that the family has already cut ties with her.
Still, if the Chilandia were to ever welcome Belltina back, it might only be when she gains the highest honors in the academy, isn’t it? That’ll depend on the Chilandia family’s standards, so I can only speculate.
「Bell’s Chilandia House and the Tweisel House are of Earl status and of the same faction, but House Tweisel has a higher standing within the faction. Because of that, I think, he always comes to Bell on sight and bullies Bell for being a failure. So if possible, I don’t want to meet him again. Since Bell will no longer be a noble from here on, Bell will have no choice but to bear with whatever he’d do to me.」
「Being a noble seems tough…」
Palra muttered with a difficult expression, but I wonder how much she could actually comprehend? Anyway, Belltina’s statements were honestly enlightening on my part, so I’m contemplating what to do next.
One thing I can say is that if Belltina graduates in her current state, it’ll be the start of a life of hiding from Alcrei. Alcrei is the son of a relatively high-status noble. Belltina would be a regular commoner. At worst, her getting killed wouldn’t be a major incident, so unless Alcrei forgets about her, she might end up being his plaything. The most realistic methods of avoiding this future would be to either run away to where he can’t reach her or to be valued enough that he can no longer lay a hand on her.
To put it simply, she needs to have a powerful backer, but wouldn’t that require Belltina herself to proactively find people that would help her? Fortunately, there are high aristocrats and even royalty here in the academy, both far greater than the Tweisel House, so she might be able to ask for help from them.
The problem then is that I don’t think Belltina is capable of doing so. Also, this has a high chance of worsening her relationship with her family, but since their relationship has already reached the point of disowning, it probably won’t get any better. Still, this would result in her having to evade both Houses Tweisel and Chilandia, so that might be complicated.
I can only hope that Belltina does her best, or, at worst, that she manages to escape to Central. In any case, I’ll leave that decision for later. The most important information for me is that Belltina’s Chilandia family and Alcrei’s Tweisel family are both a part of the same faction. With Tweisel being anti-Central, that would mean that the Chilandia family is also anti-Central.
Just because they’re anti-Central doesn’t necessarily mean that we need to take action against them, but with their standing, her family might come into conflict with us.
And that ends this update! Palra’s getting a whole lot of lore dumped on her this time around, lol.
As always, Ain quickly noticed that there were people following them, but this time it was just teachers being responsible, lol. Meanwhile, Bell really needs to do her best during her few years of school, it’s a good thing that Alcrei is preoccupied with Juerd for the time being, but who knows when he’ll decide to his Juerd frustrations on an easy target like Bell.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
