“Don’t leave!” DumbCitrus shouted urgently.
Zane stopped in his tracks.
“Whew…” She sighed in relief. Thankfully, this guy still had some sense of responsibility.
“There’s no leaving now.”
At some point, Rainflower’s people had completely surrounded them.
“They got here fast,” Zane muttered with a sigh.
Of course Rainflower wasn’t going to just let someone walk off with 100 gold for free.
“Emberveil?” Rainflower’s Drake stepped out from the crowd. “What a surprise. I didn’t expect to find you here after a boss fight. I’ve been looking for you ever since what you did to my guildmate in the Beginner Village. Don’t think you’re walking away from that.”
“What!? You’re actually enemies with Rainflower too?” DumbCitrus’ face turned purple. “It’s really over now. I don’t think money can fix this anymore…”
“You and I aren’t even together. Why are you panicking?” Zane asked, puzzled.
“The problem is they won’t believe that! If I end up on their blacklist, my whole Dreamscape career is done!” DumbCitrus was so frantic she looked like she might burst into tears.
“Damn it, these two mutts are still ignoring me?” Drake snapped. “Alright, boys! Take them down! Whoever gets the kill gets 200 gold!”
“Woohoo—!”
The mob behind him erupted, eyes gleaming red. In their eyes, Zane and the girl had turned into walking sacks of gold, ripe for the picking.
Things had definitely gotten complicated.
Zane was still in his base form. Without his class advancement, he relied mainly on gear advantage. If he got pinned down, it’d be game over.
‘Should I run?’ He glanced at the girl. A twinge of guilt surfaced. After all, this mess started because of his conflict with Rainflower.
As for shapeshifting… Zane still wasn’t ready to reveal that ability publicly. It could cause more trouble than it was worth. Starry was grinding mobs hundreds of meters away. There was no chance she’d arrive in time to help.
‘Damn it. Do I really have to expose myself?’
“Yo, if it isn’t Brother Emberveil,” came a familiar voice from behind, cutting through Zane’s thoughts.
Everyone froze.
The speaker was none other than Duskwraith, the vice guildmaster of Nether Dawn.
Right now, Nether Dawn was all the rage for their head-on victory against the Brotherhood at Grayridge Plains. The Brotherhood was an old powerhouse guild, known for both tactical coordination and raw strength. Their guildmaster, Cloudsworn, ranked among the top players in the nation.
No one expected Nether Dawn to take on such a titan headfirst, something Rainflower wouldn’t dare even dream of.
Zane turned around. “It’s you?”
“Yeah,” Duskwraith said casually. “I heard the Royal Treant had respawned, so I brought a few guys to take a look. Lulu, Whisperwind, what are you two doing dawdling? Hurry it up!”
“Coming, coming!”
Several more players emerged from the trees, their names flashing: Whisperwind, Lulu, Nethercycle, Southrain.
“Boss, you walk way too fast. How’s a delicate little assassin like me supposed to keep up?” Lulu pouted.
“What’s going on? Why are there so many people here?” Whisperwind asked in confusion.
Drake scowled. “Vice guildmaster of Nether Dawn, what’s your move here?”
“Oh, nothing much,” Duskwraith replied with calm indifference. “We’re just passing through.”
“Then move your people aside. I’d hate to accidentally hit you in the crossfire,” Drake warned.
“Oh? Did these two offend your guild somehow?”
“Hmph. That guy there, Emberveil, tricked a few of our brothers into dying just to steal their gear back in the beginner village. And the girl, she had the nerve to sell us a fake boss spawn location!”
“It wasn’t fake!” DumbCitrus’ face turned bright red. “You just showed up late!”
“Oh? Emberveil, is that true?” Duskwraith asked.
Zane gave a short laugh. “Come on, everyone knows what Rainflower Guild is like. Only their guildmaster could lie through his teeth like this and still keep a straight face.”
“You little punk, you’ve got a death wish!” Drake growled, conjuring a burst of flame.
At this point, Drake’s gear had gone through a complete upgrade. Clad in a mishmash of Rare-grade equipment, he was confident enough to duel any skilled player. If an average player got hit by that Flameburst spell, they’d either die on the spot, or come pretty close.
However, that opening move was far too obvious, Zane dodged to the right almost on reflex.
The scorching energy blast hit nothing but air and dissipated harmlessly.
“…”
With so many people watching, Drake felt his pride evaporate on the spot. “Damn it, what are you all standing around for? Get them!”
The others quickly came to their senses.
“Wait!” Duskwraith shouted. “Emberveil is a valued ally of our guild. I won’t stand by and let you bully him.”
At the same time, the four members behind him stepped forward.
Lulu, completely unbothered, remarked, “Boss, it’s just a dozen scrubs. Let’s just wipe them out and skip the chatter.”
Whisperwind shook his head. “No can do. Gotta keep up appearances. Otherwise, we’ll get stalked everywhere we go while grinding.”
“Then we just kill them every time they come,” Lulu replied indifferently.
Drake’s face darkened. “So that’s it? Duskwraith, you’re dead set on going against Rainflower?”
“And what if I am?” Duskwraith said calmly.
“F̲u̲c̲k̲ this.” With things having escalated to this point, Drake had nothing more to say. He waved his arm. “Everyone, get them!”
Since the original plan had been to go after the boss, he hadn’t brought that many people, only eleven in total, counting himself. Among them were five mages, two knights, two priests, and two assassins.
Even so, it was more than enough to take down Duskwraith’s five-man party and Emberveil. As for DumbCitrus? She was only level 10, not even worth worrying about.
“Hmph, they’re actually coming!” Duskwraith barked, “Lulu, take care of those five mages!”
Lulu said nothing, having already entered stealth mode. She darted straight toward the nearest mage. Drake was too heavily armored to target first.
“Southrain, keep an eye on Lulu’s HP. Nethercycle, Whisperwind, go assist her! Watch for the assassins!”
“Got it!”
“Keep dreaming!” One of the knights in front of them quickly turned, trying to land a taunt, only to find himself involuntarily attacking Duskwraith instead.

‘Barely a scratch! How high is his defense!?’
“You’re not getting away!” Duskwraith roared, charging forward. He slammed his shield hard against the other knight.

The power of a two-handed shield was no joke. Even a regular attack could knock 200+ HP off a fellow knight.
Meanwhile, Lulu had already reached the mage closest to her.
“Focus on Duskwraith first!” Drake shouted. In an instant, all Rainflower members zeroed in on Duskwraith.
Lulu gave a soft, mocking laugh. “What an idiot.”
Backstab!
Her twin daggers drove into the mage’s back, carving out a vivid blood-red number.
-1149
It was a critical hit, instantly killing the mage in one brutal strike!
“Damn! That chick can one-shot people! Take her out first!”
“Boss… my skills are all on cooldown…”
“Who the hell are we supposed to be focusing on again…?”
