Biyang Girls’ Academy wasn’t called a “noble ladies’ school” for nothing. Most of the students here came from families of entrepreneurs, politicians, high-ranking officials, or celebrities. But what kind of image comes to your mind when you hear the term “ojou-sama”?
Probably something like: graceful and dignified, moving with poise and elegance, speaking gently and politely. The whole refined princess package—just like some noble lady from a historical drama, with ornate dresses and delicate fans.
Well, you won’t find many of those kinds of young ladies here.
Because they were born into privilege, most of them are headstrong and prideful.
That doesn’t mean they’re bad people or inherently unpleasant—it’s just that they’re used to taking the lead in social interactions. As Sis Qiuluo put it earlier, they’re the “predatory” type.
Thanks to a solid financial aid program, ordinary students without powerful backgrounds—like Cangyu and Sis Xi—can also attend Biyang Girls’ Academy. But they’re often at risk of becoming prey to these predatory ojou-samas. For example, Cangyu was tamed and domesticated by Haitang, and Sis Xi became Meow Meow’s adopted “little sister.”
So whether Rinka asked Qiuluo to shadow me out of genuine concern that I’d get preyed on… or if she had ulterior motives for keeping me under watch—that’s worth thinking about.
The girls’ campus cafeteria was a domed building with glass curtain walls all around. Sunlight poured in, making the interior feel bright and pleasant. It was at least twice the size of the boys’ school cafeteria, able to accommodate far more students.
Since we’d arrived late, the place was almost empty, with only a few students still eating.
Just like at the school gates, you had to scan your card to enter the cafeteria. Meow Meow and Sis Xi scanned theirs and passed through smoothly, but Xiao Lei and I got stopped by the gate.
“Oh, I almost forgot.”
Rinka pulled out two magnetic cards from her skirt pocket, each with a giant photo of our faces printed on it.
“Here—your student ID cards. The self-service lunch area is free, though the food is pretty basic. If you want fancier stuff, there are paid restaurants inside… but I doubt you’d be interested, Kai-chan.”
Rinka knew me well. Why would I spend money if there’s a free meal? Those restaurants were probably aimed at the elite ojou-samas.
After all, to these rich young ladies, eating the free buffet alongside commoners probably felt beneath them. They’d much rather throw money around, snacking on fancy cakes and laughing like queens in a three-stage cackle.
…Of course, that’s just my own slightly bitter, poor-person take on it.
I couldn’t help but sigh. “This school has such a massive wealth gap…”
“But it’s not like that when you actually interact,” Haitang explained. “Biyang girls don’t form cliques or stir up divisions. It’s a testament to our high-quality character education.”
“Really? Xiao Lei and I just got ragdolled by a mob of your ‘highly educated’ students, you know!”
“Oh, come on, they didn’t mean any harm. Just think of it as a warm welcome!”
They nearly pounded my chest flat—that’s your idea of harmless!?
By now, there weren’t many dishes left, but everything was still warm. We each got our lunch and gathered around a long table to eat.
Xiao Lei looked at my tray and commented, “Commander, even here at the girls’ campus you’re still eating yakisoba bread?”
It wasn’t literally yakisoba bread—I just grabbed a plate of stir-fried noodles and some bread to make my own.
“Hey, at least this way I don’t have to fight anyone for it.”
It was different from the ones sold at the boys’ school, but the taste was decent.
Considering the budget, the self-serve food here was a lot simpler than commercial buffets, but honestly? I was more than satisfied. In fact, I was worried I might overeat and gain weight.
Qiuluo didn’t eat anything. She stood behind me, stroking her chin and muttering, “So this is how the monkeys eat—stuffing fried noodles into bread…”
“What monkeys? You’ve seriously never seen yakisoba bread before?” I shot her a look, then asked, “By the way, Sis Qiuluo, do you have to stand so close to me? Don’t you need lunch?”
“Of course I do! I’m your personal bodyguard now, remember? I’m responsible for your safety!”
She even puffed up her chest—and the hard wall of her abs bumped into the back of my head. Jeez, are her abs made of steel!? No wonder she ranks dead last in the maid popularity polls!
“Besides, this cafeteria’s for students. We in the security division get boxed meals.”
“You’re seriously not going to eat anything?” I asked again.
She stuck to her guns. “Nope. That’s the principle of the security division!”
Rinka chimed in, “But you’re not able to get your boxed meal today anyway. Just eat something here.”
“If milady insists, then I shall humbly obey!”
Then off she trotted to get a tray.
That woman changed her tune faster than flipping pages in a book. What happened to your principles!? Or is the Huangfu family the principle?
“…By the way, can we get takeout here?” I asked. My real body hadn’t eaten yet, but I couldn’t say that out loud with Qiuluo nearby.
“Oh!” Rinka caught my drift but shook her head.
“Buffets don’t allow takeout, but the restaurants inside do. Just tell me what you want—I’ll go buy it for you.”
“Isn’t it kind of rude to keep having you treat me like this…”
“Oh, come on! We’re friends, aren’t we? I told you, as long as you’re here at the girls’ campus, I’ll help you with whatever troubles you run into.”
While Rinka was reassuring me, Haitang had already stood up with her wallet. “Commander, let me treat you today. I was already planning to buy lunch for Cangyu and Yang Qi, so adding one more isn’t a big deal.”
Her family was wealthy too, but in all the years we’d hung out, she’d always insisted on going Dutch. Her sudden generosity caught me off guard—even if it wasn’t a big expense, it still made me feel kinda special.
“Th-Then I’ll treat you to lunch tomorrow!”
Then Rinka jumped in and reserved my lunch obligation before I could even process it.
Feeling playful, Qiaojue raised her hand too. “Guess I’ll buy the day after that?”
Getting handed meals by these ojou-samas one after another… I was starting to feel like a kept man.
I turned to the last ojou-sama at the table—Lei Meow Meow, heiress to the Yuanyue Group and a current idol.
She gave me a deadpan look. “Why are you looking at me? I’m not buying you lunch!”
As expected… guess I got my hopes up. Even after I came clean about everything, she still seemed to dislike me.
But before she finished her sentence, she added, “There’s a kitchen in that little house, right? Just have Xiao Xi make your lunch.”
“Eh?” Sis Xi looked stunned to suddenly be dragged into the conversation.
Rinka’s eyes lit up. “Oh! I never even considered that! Looks like I’ll need to learn a thing or two from Sis Fei…”
After lunch, Haitang and Qiaojue headed to the student council office to deliver lunch to Cangyu, while Meow Meow and Sis Xi went back to their classroom. Only Xiao Lei and Rinka walked back to the cottage with me—but along the way, we were once again swarmed by gawkers. Thankfully, Qiuluo brute-forced a path for us with her muscle power. At least those abs were useful for something.
…But Xiao Lei got carried off.
“Xiao—Lei—!!”
Back at the cottage, Rinka had Qiuluo wait outside the door.
Once my soul returned to my real body, I eagerly dug into the curry chicken rice Haitang had bought for me.
“So, what’s the plan for the afternoon?”
“Of course we’re going to class. What, you thought you’d just tour the school?”
“I mean, we’re supposed to be exchange students, right? But which school are we from? Is there a set answer? If anyone in class asks and we can’t explain, it’ll be super awkward.”
“Oh, we already planned that out. Just say you’re from Chaiqing No. 11 High School.”
“Chaiqing No. 11? Oh, from Chaiqing City? You sure picked somewhere far.”
“Well duh. If it wasn’t far, how could we justify you living on campus?”
Chaiqing is just a place that just came up ramdomly and never comes out again in this novel.
