A week had passed since classes resumed and they had taken that test.

At noon, the results of the test were announced in the students’ community page, producing cheers and laments through all the classrooms. Kou’s classroom was no exception to that.

In a corner of the classroom, two heads stood out from amongst the rest, one with white hair, the other with silvery hair, and there was a tense atmosphere between the two as they looked up the results.

It was almost like sparks were going off between them until…

“ “…Ugh.” ”

Both of them let out a disappointed groan at the same time.

“…Tied for third place in our grade, huh.”
“…I guess you know a thing or two, after all.”

Both looked frustrated with their results, and a quiet rivalry simmered as they glared at each other, sparks practically flying between them.

Kou had dropped a few points thanks to some careless mistakes, easily attributed to the pain she endured on the first day of the test when her cramps were the worst.

On the other hand, Reo had essentially perfect scores across all science topics, but made a few mistakes in language, and many more in history. Still, that was a really impressive score from someone who had been in Japan for so little time. And yet he was not satisfied, either due to his stoic drive, or simply because he hated losing.

But even more frustrating was the name ranked above theirs, sitting in second place. Kou and Reo turned in unison, joining forces to glare at him with shared disdain.

“Hahaha, it feels nice to be back on top, losers.”
“Dammit Subaru! How did you get a higher score…!”
“Ugh, I didn’t expect an ambush to come from him…!!”

While those two had been trying to take each other out, Subaru had taken the high road and blazed past them, and now he stood proud, his glasses glimmering.

Hijiri was behind him, trying to get him to stop gloating, but it was impossible to wipe off that smug smirk from his face.

Kou continued grumbling for a bit, but eventually let out a sigh and gave up. There was such a big gap in their scores that even if she was in good shape, she was unsure if she would have been able to top Subaru’s score.

“Well…I guess a loss is a loss and that’s it. You did really well, Subaru.”

She could recognize how much Subaru had grown, so she complimented him a bit. And then…

“I mean, I was also tutoring the prez for it, so that helped me review and memorize things better. In that sense, I guess I can credit this win to her?”
“N-Not at all! I only got a better grade because of your help!”

After some introspection, Subaru decided that it was Kasumi who deserved the praise, who was still hyperventilating next to them.

Her name appeared alongside Hijiri down in the thirties, which was where Hijiri usually ended up, but it was nearly twenty places higher than Kasumi’s usual ranking, which explained why she was still trying to process it.

Regardless, the important thing was that everyone had passed the test without issue, so they could all relax again for a while.

Slowly, the cheers and groans from students who had either passed or failed began to fade, and the final homeroom session of the day passed uneventfully. Now that everything related to the test was over, there was only one matter left to discuss in the classroom.

“The school festival is in two months from now, so are there any suggestions on what to do? Though I can pretty much guess the results already.”

Subaru stood at the front of the classroom, speaking in a casual tone, having been given the responsibility of leading the meeting. Next to him was Hijiri as secretary, and the class president Kasumi, writing the different suggestions on the AR whiteboard.

Many of the students raised their hands, throwing random suggestions into the mix.

The school festival was the last sendoff to summer, just at the end of October.

They still had two months to get ready for it, but as each classroom was free to do whatever they wanted for the festival, it was common for them to start preparing things early, wanting to outshine the other classrooms.

Especially because there was a limit on how many classrooms from each grade could open a cafe, as that was the most popular choice and the school wanted to encourage more variety.

That meant it was best to submit the report of their choice as soon as possible to get a chance. For some unknown reason, Kou’s class was especially eager to get what they wanted, which was why almost all the students stayed after class to discuss it.

“I mean, we already have Mitsuki and Kuga in our class.”
“Yeah, we got two golden hens here, so we gotta make good use of them.”
“…Wha?!”
“Hahah… Of course, I’m part of this class now, so I’ll cooperate with anything that you need.”

As all their classmates turned to look at them with eyes full of expectations, Kou let out a shocked voice, while Reo seemed to be enjoying himself and was ready to help.

“But that’s not all, we got some more beauts over here!”
“The Furuya twins and the prez with some adjustments will also shine, yeah. I’m so happy that I got to be in this class.”
“Hwhawah? Me too?!”
“And you knowww, I’ve always been itching to try out different clothes on Mitsuki!”

Somehow, the girls in the class seemed hellbent on using Kou as a dress-up doll.

“…That just sounds like bad news to me.”

Kou muttered that, feeling a chill run down her spine, but her classmates were so loud that no one heard her.

And so, driven by various ulterior motives, one candidate was quickly rising in popularity amongst the students.

Kasumi had been watching it all unfold from a distance, but when she got dragged into it, she got so shaken up that she could hardly keep up with the votes anymore… In the end, however, the results were clear, with such margins that there was no need to dispute the count. With more than triple the votes of any other option, the class had chosen a cosplay café.
