「You were searching for one attempting a taboo, weren’t you? Isn’t it to eliminate him?」
「It’s not. I was searching to give a warning.」
「And if he didn’t abide by your warning?」

As we moved to the main topic, the headmistress had a serious look on her face, while Ciel was just acting as her usual self, ruining the gravity of the mood.
I don’t really care about that to begin with, and I’m for Ciel doing as she likes, so I don’t plan on interjecting. After all, it’s not really that grave of a conversation.

While it may be grave at a personal level, from the side of the divine, it’s not something that needs particular attention. If Professor Liens fails to commit the taboo, good; if he succeeds, divine punishment befalls him, the end.
And for the professor, he probably doesn’t care about anything except achieving his goal, and he understands that it will end his life.

As such, while the headmistress asked with a heavy and grave tone, Ciel answered without any particular fanfare.

「Then that’s it.」
「… What do you mean?」
「I meant exactly what I said?」

The headmistress probably expected answers like, ‘We’ll force him to comply with our demands,’ or ‘We’ll hurt him until he stops,’ and the like.
If we were a devout believer, for example, we might have instead warned Professor Liens against attempting such a transgression against the divine teachings before using force if he continued long after the warning.
However, we don’t really have extreme adoration towards the Creator God. The Creator God referred to me as something like her child, and I personally… It’s a bit difficult to describe, but I see her in a similar way as a school teacher. As for Ciel, I don’t know what’s really on her mind, but she probably doesn’t have a strong opinion on the Creator God, I think?

『I’m genuinely grateful for them, you know?』

It appears that Ciel heard my monologue, as she answered my question.

『But you’ve never met the Creator God before, right?』
『Nope. I haven’t spoken to them either. But they did give me the opportunity to touch Ain even just for a day. Besides, they were the one who sent Ain to my side, right?』
『That’s certainly the case.』
『That’s why I’m very grateful!』

While it’s nice to know this, is it really alright to neglect the headmistress? Thinking so, I checked up on her.
It seems like it’s taking time for her to digest Ciel’s response, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Before long, the headmistress, with a scrunched face for some reason, expressed a certain doubt in her mind.

「If that’s it, then why give a warning at all?」
「Fii requested it, after all… Besides, it wasn’t really a commitment for me either. After all, if a taboo is enacted, divine punishment simply happens. No need for Fii and I to do anything at all.
But since Liens is talented enough to attempt a taboo, it’s a bit of a waste to lose him, so we’re giving a warning.」

I interjected a bit and had Ciel explain in more detail. The headmistress wouldn’t be convinced without a decent explanation, and since we’ll be asked about it anyway, it’ll save us time to take initiative.

「True, you’re not mistaken about that. In that case, that’s a good—or not, I still feel conflicted about it.」
「That sounds complicated.」
「You don’t seem concerned.」
「I’m not, after all.」

While looking relieved, the headmistress also had a conflicted expression. I don’t know what’s on her mind, but she seems convinced by Ciel’s answer, and that’s enough.
Well, she’s cheering for Professor Liens to achieve his goal, but achieving the said goal would kill him, so anyone would probably feel conflicted in her position.
The headmistress doesn’t seem to like people dying, after all. I want to verify this information, so I’ll have Ciel ask about it.

「Incidentally, were you the one who forbade Liens from killing anyone?」
「Considering his situation, there’s no telling when he could be targeted. If he happened to kill someone even in self-defence, it would be difficult for me to cover for him.
Besides, there’s a chance that the one targeting him could be a precious talent.」

She really is a headmistress at heart, if you ask me. After all, she considers even someone whose goal is to commit a taboo―to go against the will of the divine―like Profesor Liens a target of support and protection.
The headmistress probably loves people at a fundamental level. Or rather, she loves seeing people grow. Seeing this as her purpose in life, she doesn’t let culture and morals dictate her standards.

The only things she loathes are surely actions that hinder the growth of people―for example, murder.
That’s probably why she instructed Professor Liens not to kill anyone targeting him. Upon capture, the headmistress will probably be the one to personally persuade the intruder in whatever way possible.
After all, she has the power and authority to impose her own demands.

And Professor Liens likely obeys her instructions because he knows that the headmistress would protect him as long as he’s on academy grounds. After all, there probably isn’t anyone else who would support his heretical study without any hidden agenda. Additionally, having the headmistress’ support probably contributed to the confidence he showed back then.

「In that case, I’m glad things went well. Had he the intent to kill, I wouldn’t even try to hold back.」
「Even if that was the case, it isn’t like you’d be killed so easily, isn’t it?」
「Who could say? Still, does that mean that it’s alright to go for the kill against someone who can’t die?」
「That’s…」

The headmistress must find it hard to approve of our way of thinking. However, it appears that she doesn’t want to deny Ciel’s words either.
I’m glad that the headmistress isn’t the type to espouse things like the strong having moral duties and so on.
If she had done that, it would’ve made me hate her. Everyone is free to pursue their own ideals, but if she forces it on us, then I’d get the urge to crush her.

But since I’m literally incapable of doing that, I’d do malicious experiments instead. Experiment about new ways of using the Song Princess.

「Anyhow, that means that you don’t intend to do anything to Liens, correct?」
「That’s right. But I can’t promise the same with the Elberts.」
「What’s the issue with the Elbert family?」
「I think they could be Liens’ patron, but perhaps I’m wrong?」
「There are no such records in the academy’s ledger.」

Translator's Note

And that ends this update! Our cast is now in the middle of serious talk, with our girls answering the headmistress’ questions!

Just a short impression today, but again, it’s funny how the exceptional people in this story are all some flavor of crazy. The headmistress loving human growth above all else, Liens wanting recognition to the point of committing heresy, Munyechka and Ain obsessing with dolls and Ciel respectively to the point of achieving magic, and Ciel’s extreme codependency with Ain.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
