The long-awaited—well, not really—academy entrance day has finally arrived.
Since our conversation with Princess Leshimiiya, nothing particularly eventful has happened. We borrowed the rooftop once, and even though it was already sunset, the princess didn’t show any displeasure at our intrusion and welcomed us.
Given her position, she probably didn’t have much of a choice, though. And while I did say ‘welcomed us’, we just had some casual tea.
That time, as expected, we only talked about trivial things.
For example, how we’re adjusting to dorm life, Ausente’s national color, and our studies.
While Ciel was imitating me, she isn’t the talkative type, and Princess Leshimiiya seemed to be fumbling for topics, so there wasn’t really much for them to discuss.
Still, from an outsider’s perspective, they did look like they were enjoying themselves—probably a testament to the princess’ communication skills.
Aside from that day, we didn’t do much, and without any interaction with our floormates, entrance day came.
While we probably should at least greet the others on our floor, there appears to be a welcome party on entrance day, and in many cases, that’s where people meet each other for the first time, so we didn’t.
Another factor was that it was troublesome to figure out whether we, in our current position, should be the ones to give greetings or the ones to wait for others to greet us.
If any problems arise, we’d be in a more advantageous position by playing the latter role, so we went with that choice. On the other hand, we might end up being pinned as an ignorant or disrespectful commoner, but we can probably leave that issue to the princess.
Though thinking about it normally, we could always use the excuse of not having had the time due to moving-in preparations.
『The entrance ceremony here isn’t really that similar to the one I know.』
「What happens during the entrance ceremony that you know, Ain?」
And as always, Ciel and I start the day with a chat.
From conversations like this, Mia might grow suspicious of my past, but I wonder just how much Mia knows about me to begin with?
Other than Ciel, I don’t think I’ve ever told any other human that I was a human from another world in my previous life.
『We’d gather in a large area with a roof and quietly listen to an important person giving a speech.』
「Is that interesting?」
『Nope, not one bit. But I suppose it was considered an important symbolic event.
In my previous life, the days tended to feel more repetitive with daily routines, you see. Personally, I never questioned why we did it, so I don’t really know what its true purpose was.』
「I see. Still, it doesn’t sound like the one here is going to be that interesting either. From what I understand, we’re going to have a formal party or something.」
『While I figured we’d have to attend one sooner or later, it still sounds pretty bothersome, doesn’t it?』
「I’m excited about the food at least. Why don’t we just spend the entire event eating?」
Well, that’s an awfully pragmatic take for a special occasion… I really hope that mindset isn’t because of me.
When it comes to parties and dresses, it’s easy to imagine it as something girls would normally dream of. If it were just about wearing dresses, eating good food, and dancing freely, it might even be enjoyable—but that’s not how a formal party really works.
With political maneuverings being a given, having to talk with people we’re not especially close with would only be a source of stress for Ciel.
Today’s party is also meant to serve as an introduction to formal parties for the unfamiliar commoners, so it’ll be more accessible and less rigid.
As far as manners and etiquette go, they won’t be strict unless something absolutely unacceptable happens, and if trouble breaks out, the academy staff will step in.
As for the dancing, there isn’t any mandatory quota; those who want to dance are free to do so.
All things considered, it’s a good environment for practice.
For our schedule, each class will gather separately in the morning, and then the party will be held in the afternoon.
We’ll dress up during the free time in between, but those who don’t own a dress will be lent one by the academy.
This was explained during the dormitory assignment, where we were told to inform the academy in advance if we needed to rent one, if I recall. I feel like it was also written in the documents, but since we have a dress, I didn’t bother to remember it.
While the party itself may be bothersome, having an opportunity to wear a dress we’ve only worn once doesn’t feel bad at all.
As expected, we can’t really wear the one Lisyl made, but I do love the dress Shusii made for Ciel.
『For now, why don’t we head to the classroom?』
「It’s already that time? In that case, Mia, we’ll be leaving now.」
「Of course. Please take care.」
Sent off by Mia’s elegant bow, we headed for our classroom.
◇◇◇
It’s our first time entering the school building since the entrance exam, and unlike before, it has a restless yet lively atmosphere.
We passed by many students in the hallway, and most of them ended up following Ciel with their gaze.
Ciel didn’t seem bothered by it at all, and I generally ignore it when things like this happen. If I let my guard up every time someone stares at Ciel, I’ll just exhaust myself mentally.
In the first place, Ciel attracts attention no matter where she is. Be it the Hunter Guild or the middle of town, eyes always turn toward her.
So if I start worrying about that, there’ll be no end to it.
Reaching our assigned classroom—Class A—we sat down at Ailneige’s seat.
Currently, the others are only observing us from afar, it seems? Many appear to be curious about us, but none dare to approach.
Now, the one I’m concerned about among the students present is the boy with—excluding us—the most magic power capacity, the boy in possession of the 「Hero」 Job.
Fortunately, there are many students gathered around him, and he doesn’t seem to have noticed us either.
With our previous encounter at the guild, I was worried that he might try to speak with us on sight, so that’s a relief.
At the seat near his are also Princess Leshimiiya and the red-haired noble girl. Moreover, the elf girl with the lightning spirit is also here, so I can’t help but feel like the students of this class weren’t assigned arbitrarily.
While he still has yet to arrive, the lightning sorcerer noble boy might be a part of this class as well.
Though I say that, it’s only five or six prominent students out of many. The rest seem to be from various walks of life.
Maybe the princess’ presence also plays a part in why no one is approaching Ailneige. After all, she definitely stands out more than we do.
And that ends this chapter! New day, new school, and new classmates! Who may or may not be intentionally cherry-picked for this class, but oh well~
As always with Ain, I like it whenever she just honestly tells Ciel “This is how this is, but I don’t actually know why it is, tbh.” The honesty is just funny for some reason. Especially regarding school orientations, lol. You could at least think why the long winded principal talking could be important, but she did mentioned how she didn’t even bother to remember about the dress borrowing details, which is honestly relatable. We also have several familiar faces in this class, so that’s exciting.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
