Re:Library

Lin Feng, Mr. Liu, the Principal, and gatekeeper Liu Tao stood in a line, their faces a picture of shock. Yan Aoxue had boldly confronted the zombies, dispatching two with her spear before wiping the sweat off her forehead.

“We’ve got this,” she declared with confidence.

“Cough.” Her moves were still a little green, but they were sure, and at the very least, she was more reliable than his current choices. Still…

“No. I still won’t agree.”

“But why?! Lin Feng?” she pressed.

Mr. Liu weighed in, thoughtfully stroking his beard. “It’s not about battling zombies, Mengqi. During Lin Feng’s scouting missions, you’ve been the primary mediator with the students. They respect your words more than ours. It’s clear you have a unique connection with them.”

Lin Feng nodded. Barring the recent turmoil caused by Anna and Yan Jie, which was extraordinary and honestly out of anyone’s control, most situations were handled deftly by her. And Anna wasn’t really one to be controlled regardless.

Acknowledging their points, Yan Aoxue said, “Fine, I understand.”

Lin Feng was taken aback, having known Yan Aoxue as a steadfast individual, not one to change her mind easily. Perhaps this was just a rare moment of impulsiveness on her part.

Two days later, five figures in yellow and white hazmat suits regrouped near the broadcast station.

“How should we handle these zombies? Need me to clean them all up?” came a voice from within a suit, its wearer brandishing a wooden bow. He struck a theatrical pose as he pulled an arrow, exuding a comical charm in his unwieldy yellow suit.

The hazmat designs, while ideal for firearms, proved slightly awkward for archery.

Lin Feng answered, half-jokingly, “Actually, let’s go with ‘Chick, you’re too beautiful.'”

Confused, the voice replied, “‘Chick, you’re too beautiful?’ What does that even mean?”

“Just follow my lead. 3… 2… 1…”

“Chick, you’re too beautiful. Cluck, cluck. As you walk from the opposite side, you stir something within me.”

Hao Jian was momentarily stunned upon hearing the familiar tune.

Lin Feng pulled everyone into a square structure, watching the emerging horde of zombies from the rooftop.

“Junior, you’re quite clever! When did you set this up? Oh, you did this last time too, didn’t you?” He hurriedly pushed Hao Jian’s head down from its lofty, visible perch.

“Yes, I got it ready yesterday morning. By the way, didn’t you know that cats are exceptionally lively in the early morning?” Lin Feng boasted with a smile, though he had only known of this fact by chance when he came upon an encyclopedia recently.

“Really? When are cats the laziest?”

“Of course, it’s… Liu Mengqi, are you trying to make me talk again?” Lin Feng shot an annoyed look at Liu Mengqi, whose smiling face could be seen inside the small window of her hazmat suit.

After a series of selections, it was determined that the other girls had no combat abilities. Surprisingly, Liu Mengqi was the one chosen.

Liu Mengqi nonchalantly agreed.

Lin Feng also consented, reasoning that he would protect Liu Mengqi. If the four of them couldn’t guard her now, then their stronghold being infiltrated was only a matter of time. The current quartet represented the most formidable strength of their group.

“Enough, you two! I’m fed up with your public displays of affection. Wait until I win over the school doctor. I’ll flaunt our relationship in front of you every day,” Song Zhe exclaimed, frustrated, pointing at Liu Mengqi, who was hugging Lin Feng.

“We’re like siblings.”

“Sure, ‘siblings’.”
