Today is my first opening ceremony. While there’s nothing much to talk about me moving up a grade, I do need to seriously think about the future this school year. However, the unfortunate reality is that I need to prioritize my current problems over the future ones.
“Let’s see, my new class is…”
I stood before the bulletin board congested with freshmen and other students checking their classroom assignment. For some reason, I’m on my own right now. Kaori disappeared on the way as if she sensed something. She probably felt that she was about to be dragged into trouble. Now what that trouble is, I have no idea.
“Sister dearest, good morning!”
“Big sis, morning.”
“I see you two came.”
From this year on, the twins are attending this academy. Didn’t make any plans to meet up this morning, but it seems like they were searching for me. The opening ceremony is going to start soon, so I don’t think we really have the time to dawdle.
“How are your class arrangements?”
“We’re in the same class.”
“I think it’s out of consideration.”
That’s a relief. It’s not like they’re codependent with each other, but they have been basically attached to the hip since they were born. If they suddenly have to go around separately, there’s sure to be some complications.
“How about you, elder sister?”
“My class hasn’t changed much from last year’s arrangement.”
“Sis sis, that’s how you are at school?”
“Yes. My private persona can be a bit stimulating, after all.”
“ “Right.” ”
“Is it me, or have you been influenced?”
I feel like they’ve learned to be more playful since interacting with the rogue’s den. While it’s a welcome change from their previous overly serious demeanor, if this goes too far, they’ll end up just like those fools. And that’s one thing I can’t overlook.
“Ah, Koto-nee!”
“ “Nee?” ”
“C’mon, you two. Don’t react like that.”
Don’t scowl at Rin like that. Sensing from the twins’ reaction, Rin displayed a grin similar to when Aya finds a new toy. While she might not be as troublesome as Aya, that doesn’t change how I’m going to suffer for this regardless.
“Koto-nee. Could they be your twin younger siblings?”
“We are younger siblings Kotoha and Tateha, yes. Please don’t push your luck, Rin.”
“That’s not negotiable.”
“Sister. Can we purge her.?”
“We’re the only ones allowed to call her like that.”
I guess this was the danger that Kaori sensed. I don’t really think that there’ll be any strays for her to catch in this situation, though. But I do personally intend to drag her into the blast zone if anything happens.
“They’ve got quite the sister complex, I see.”
“Is it alright not to keep a front up?”
“I’m thinking of renewing my image this year like you. There’s already been a precedent, after all.”
By that, she means Ani, doesn’t she? True, her change would be far less shocking in comparison, so Rin will likely get accepted easily. The change from the second to Ani was so extreme.
“If that can resolve your problem, then do as you wish. I can only cheer you from the sidelines.”
“I might not be able to do what Sis Aya did, but I’ll do what I can.”
In that regard, there’s nothing to worry about. I can’t imagine any situation where Rin would be isolated. I can already see her maneuvering well enough to take control of her whole class. In other words, she’d probably have a classroom dictatorship like her older sister did.
“Listen up, Kotoha, Tateha. You shouldn’t interact with her much, alright?”
“Why treat me like a dangerous individual?”
“ “Yes!” ”
“Well, aren’t you two easy to agree?”
Good, now let’s stop these twins from interacting with the rogue’s den fools more than they already have. They’ll only be a bad influence. The same goes with the Shimotsuki sisters. A meeting of monsters might result in them feeding off each other and bringing forth a new evolution; terrifying.
“Grrr.”
“By the way, why is Ms. Kotori biting a handkerchief over there?”
“I even went out of the way to completely ignore her.”
I’ve actually noticed Kotori for a while now. Since the twins found me, to be precise. She probably came to greet me when the twins swooped in, causing her to miss the chance. I don’t know why but I feel like Kotori and the twins will be opposed to each other.
“That’s an enemy, right?”
“Yeah, an enemy.”
Why do they even recognize each other as enemies at first sight? Is their deliberate clinging to my arms some statement for Kotori? That I’m theirs and not yours, or something? Neither of them own me, though.
“C’mon you two. You’ll be late if you don’t head to your classrooms soon. As the oldest sister, I can’t forgive you if you embarrass yourselves from the first day.”
I also might get late because of this. Honestly, I’m more worried about their future than mine. If I’m late, people would just brush it off as being due to me doing something stupid again. Damn you, Ani. Leaving me with a weird reputation.
“Well then, Rin, Kotori. See you later.”
Tonight, I will be visiting the Kisaragi family residence for the twins’ enrollment celebration. Ever since that day, father’s attitude towards the family has softened. We’re still far from having a normal household’s relationship, but considering our previous arrangement, it’s a big progress.
“Not that the distance between us has changed or anything.”
Ani’s critical strike caused a major change in the family’s relationship, but it also instilled a fear towards me. Looking at the bigger picture, it had a massively beneficial result. Though personally, I can’t comment much on it.
“Hmm, just entering normally wouldn’t be that interesting.”
My personality is likely greatly influenced by Ani. If it was Ane, she would just normally pass through the door. Why does Ani always have the urge to do things out of the norm?
“And yet, he considered himself an ordinary person.”
I’m sure the people familiar with Ani didn’t see him as normal at all. Even I think the same way. And as I took on a large part of his characteristics, I’m no ordinary person either. In the first place, being an individual’s fourth personality, I’m far from being normal.
“First, it was the second’s intense entry. Ani’s was manly and brazen. Now, how should I go about it…”
I don’t need to make a powerful impact appearance-wise. And I don’t need Ani’s unflinchingly strong mentality. The foundation has been set, so there’s no need to improve the status quo. Then all I need to do is have fun.
“Good morning everyone.”
And so I tried projecting a pure, ladylike persona. Having my hair down and behaving like Ane should make it look convincing. At first, they were confused and weirded out, but then their expressions gradually changed to one of surprise.
“Kotone is changing her image again!?”
“As a demure character this time!?”
By the way, when I stay in Ane mode for a long time, it gives me stiff shoulders. My breasts already give my shoulders enough trouble, the mental strain just makes it worse. I guess it really is best to act naturally. That’s why I just can’t stop fooling around.
“Yeah, sure, enough fooling around, back to normal with you.”
“Would you please refrain from hitting my head, Kaori?”
“I’ll keep hitting you until you start acting normal again.”
Kaori kept slapping me lightly on the head, so I reluctantly tied my hair up. As expected, it’s not much, but it does trigger a minor mental shift. Still, is it really weird for me to act ladylike and demure?
“What’s my public image now?”
“Naturally, a problem child who erratically causes a commotion.”
“Isn’t that mean?”
C’mon everyone, don’t agree with it. It’s true that Ani caused a few commotions here and there, but he was forced into a lot more against his will. So if there’s anyone to blame, it would be those two alumnus.
“Phew, I was worried that Kotonen would start acting up again.”
“I’m really glad you’re the same as last year’s.”
“Was it really that disorienting?”
“ “ “We’ll be troubled if you completely change again.” ” ”
Like new personalities can just pop out that easily. Still, when people change, how they’re treated also changes. Ani has experienced it himself. Whatever the circumstances, it’s best to stay with what you’re used to. And I share that sentiment.
“I won’t change any more than this.”
Ani and Ane’s mysterious over-technology is forever lost, so I won’t change any further. As Kaori is the only one who knows my circumstances, she let out a heavy sigh; I guess I can consider this prank a big success.
“I need to vent every once in a while, you know?”
“Be in my shoes, having to put up with your antics.”
“It’s a precious sacrifice.”
As I have a troublesome matter to deal with, I’m currently busy with a lot. If I don’t pay close attention and have a tight hold on the reins, it’ll cause a disaster, so it’s pretty stressful. Ani’s parting gift was more troublesome than I imagined.
“I’m really worried about it.”
“Good luck. I’m not joining, so tell me about what happens there.”
“What are you two talking about?”
“ “Secret.” ”
It’s something we still can’t talk about; especially not to the people in the academy, they absolutely can’t know. We’re talking about the principal and Teacher Saeki’s wedding. I have an influence on how the event will go, and that’s a really heavy responsibility.
