“As expected, there are tons of people.”
“To think so many are buying the ticket on the day of the performance. It’s a good thing we preordered ours.”

We had arrived at a place where we could see the circus tent. A long line of people had formed at the ticket booth and on the path to the entrance of the tent itself. I thought we had left early enough to watch the first performance, but it looked as if we’d have to content with the second.

“Oh, well, let’s get in line.”
“Woof.”

After showing the girl at the counter our tickets, we joined the end of the long line. A man wearing an acrobat’s outfit with frills around his neck held up a signboard with “the first part is booked out, this is the end of the line” written on it.

“Good thing we brought snacks.”
“Absolutely!”

We also brought power banks since we didn’t want our phones to run out of charge. Plus, some cheap binoculars, in case we were seated somewhere with a bad view.

The second performance would end around noon, so we didn’t need to bring lunchboxes… or so you’d think. Mika, Sakura, and Rir each made lunches for two people. Indeed, us three boys were quite lucky to have them.

Once the circus performance was over, we’d find seats in a nearby park and eat there. Feeding each other, and all. Maybe we’d also exchange some of our lunches?

“Woof… It feels like there are a lot of gazes on us…!”
“That’s normal.”
“It sure is.”

Ever since we were little, people had been staring at us. Especially now with Rir joining us, we were likely the center of attention. That was further helped by the fact that Sakura and Kanata were famous due to that heartwarming documentary about them. It was unavoidable.

“E-Even so, to think so many would look at us.”
“The six of us haven’t been outside together since we went to welcome Rir. You better get used to it, Sakura,” Mika told her sister. “Especially since you were on TV twice.”
“Bwuh…”

Come to think of it, both Sanada and Hunkydorky mentioned something like that. On the internet, there apparently were (ongoing) threads titled such as “girl who used to be blind turns out once-in-a-century beauty” and “Kanata (14), caring genius childhood friend with both overly perfect personality and looks.”

In any case, all that fame gave my younger brother and my future sister-in-law a hard time.

“Well, should anything happen, I’ll make sure to protect you.”
“K-Kanata…! I-I’m happy to hear that, but please say these things when we’re at home.”
“Alright.”

Maybe we stood out because of our good looks, maybe it was because of Kanata’s and Sakura’s fame, or maybe it was because we flirted and made out even if we were in front of others.

Such thoughts crossed my mind. But in the end, we couldn’t resist hugging each other even when we were outside, so I couldn’t complain.

“Woof, should we play games on our phones?”
“Those you can play with six people?”

In any case, we had Shuu with us, who’d gotten so strong that there was no one in Japan who’d be a match for him1, so we didn’t have to be overly vigilant.

As Rir had suggested, we linked our phones and started playing games. Well, it was only a digital version of playing cards.

“…Woof, revolution2!”
“Wha-!? Seriously?”
“In that case…”

Kanata had always been in the lead, so he was understandably surprised.

Meanwhile, the circus’ first performance started. One round would take two hours (with a ten-minute break at the halfway point). Afterwards, there’d be a 30-minute break between performances.

In other words, we’d have to wait two hours and 40 minutes until the second performance started. But in exchange we’d be among the first to enter. The six of us could sit at the very front of the unreserved seats.

“Two and a half more hours… I don’t think we can keep playin’ cards all that time.”
“But time we pass quickly. If we play something.”
“Guess so.”

All the spectators for the first performance had entered and we were right in front of the tent. We brought our own drinks and snacks, so we didn’t buy anything from the stalls and vendors going around. Correction, Sakura bought some candy bars.

“Oh, look at that! It’s a huge line!”

When I checked where the voice was coming from, I saw a TV crew, including an announcer with a microphone and a crewman holding a large camera.

“Let’s try to get some interviews!”

Oh, from where this is going, they’ll likely come to us…

“Could I ask you for an interview?”

And here they are.

On that note, we (including Shuu, since I often dragged him into it) were interviewed all the time. I had no issues answering questions, no matter who asked, but… with our current group…

“Oh!? Could you be the ones from that documentary…?”

They were closing in on Kanata and Sakura.

“And that’s the foreign student who came here through that program and the son of her foster family! What a lineup of people!”

The cameraman muttered not a moment later.

What, don’t tell me Mika and I are the only ones with no attention on us? Well, up to this point, it was always-

“Woah! There’s also the ‘bane of the industry3‘…”
“Oh, you’re right! The two who keep refusing all recruitment attempts…”

In the end, all six of us were famous in some way. Still, this was the first time I heard that nickname.

Footnotes:

  1. Sure, until you get some random punk with a gun.
  2. The original is 革命, which doesn’t seem to have any card-game related homophones. No clue if this is an error. It might be meant in the sense of “revolution against the omnipotent Kanata”.
  3. The original is 業界殺し (“business world/industry killer”). I changed it slightly.
