I strolled from one place to another until I reached the town gate.

As I approached, I couldn’t discern from afar, but there were quite a few people gathered in front of the gate, forming a line along the wall.

The wall was a dead giveaway, but it wasn’t akin to Japan, where you could wander and suddenly find yourself in the next town. Here, each town was enclosed by a wall, and entry required undergoing a check.

I was walking straight through the meadow when suddenly a doglike creature lunged at me.

This was my first life-and-death battle. Not just now, but for the first time in this life, ever. I expected it to be intense.

I couldn’t help but anticipate it. However, after hastily summoning a sword using Creation and swinging it, the sword shattered along with the dog-like creature. It seemed that no number of such creatures could pose a threat to me.

Ironically, I was the most powerful being in this world.

Perhaps it was because I wielded the sword with the emotions I had before my death, but I couldn’t afford to have my status be too high. I figured I should find a way to try and control my strength.

After all, if I wasn’t careful I could end up causing chaos in the town. And it would also lead to them learning that my status is fake.

Deciding to test out my magic, I used Ignition, a spell under Daily Magic, and the dog’s corpse was promptly reduced to ashes.

I thought I’d just use Mischief, which fell under Superior Witchcraft, in order to deceive everyone from start to finish. Being strong wasn’t easy. It might have been easier to become the people’s enemy and confront them head-on to take the spirits from them.

Though this choice also had the risk of killing the spirits. Which meant that my best choice would probably be to go undercover and try to find where the spirits were.

“Missy. Hey, missy.”
“What? Ah, yes?”

I’d been pondering on what to do given that I was quite free, however, before I knew it, it was already my turn. Furthermore, being called ‘missy’ was certainly something I wasn’t used to.

However, thinking back, I’d never been called ‘boy’ even when I was a man.

The man that stood before the gate had a complex look on his face.

“Your travel permit please.”
“I don’t have one.”
“Do you have any proof of identity?”
“No.”
“I’ll have to take you to the back then.”

The man who appeared to be a little older than my parents —not God, who has since become my parent, but rather my parents from when I was Makoto Toriyama— scratched his head and led me into what appeared to be an interrogation room.

He’s probably going to interrogate me here to see if I’m suspicious, I figured.

I could imagine that this experience was surely going to make my brain work overtime.

“So, why did you come to this town, missy?”
“My name is Finis, and I’m 14 years old. I used to live in a small house in the forest with my mother and father, but when I was 10 years old, they were both attacked by demons and died. Since then, I’ve been living on my own, but things became increasingly tough, so I decided to leave the woods. I’m good at fighting and such, but I struggle with working alongside others.”
“What did you say?”
“My name is Finis, and I’m 14 years old. I used to…”
“Stop, stop. That’s not what I’m asking.”

My performance was suddenly interrupted.

I thought that by going for a morning Sunday show vibe would definitely do the trick, however, it didn’t work as I’d expected.

“Let’s start with this then. Why were you living in the forest? There are demons in the forest and it’s dangerous, no?”
“I do not know since I’ve been living there ever since I was born, but my father said something about being banished from the village because they’d gotten fed up with him.”
“What’s with the sudden change of tone?”
“You didn’t bite the first time.”
“Bite? Well whatever. It’s true that sometimes there are people that get ostracized by their villages and are forced to live in dangerous areas.”
“My parents were good hunters, so it wasn’t that hard for them. I was also able to somehow survive because I learned how to hunt from them.”
“So that’s why you’re good at fighting.”

The man remarked, referring back to my original setting, which made me believe that things were going in a good direction.

Despite everything, I didn’t feel any shame at all. I figured that this was most likely due to me being a Demigod.

To put it into perspective, it was like how people wouldn’t get embarrassed after doing a silly performance in front of their pets. I couldn’t thank god enough for this.

“I’ll let you enter, but before that I must check your status.”
“I’m fine with that. Please go ahead.” I said, feeling great that I had fiddled with my status beforehand.

The man handed me a crystal, which was the same as the one I’d seen in the castle, and when I touched it my false status was displayed on it.

No matter how I looked at it, it was an average status.

There was nothing strange about it, and it was average at best.

“You’re quite strong for your age. Is it because you’ve been hunting ever since you were young? And…. you also have a skill?!”

I couldn’t help but feel happy when he looked at my status and how everything aligned with the setting I’d made up.

It was excellent since it saved me from having to explain things.

However, I’d never expected that I’d get such a reaction simply for having a skill. It was then that I remembered the king saying something about how skill bearers were rated.

Titles on the other hand were acquired based on a person’s behavior or their actions, and a lot of people were called by their title. It was very subjective, but having a title didn’t necessarily correlate to an increase in status.

However, it also made sense why they were checking statuses before letting people into town.

If a person had done something bad then it would surely display as a title! And if they continued doing bad things then their title would continue being updated along the way.

It was possible to tell thugs with just a glance!

When I became a Demigod, I began to understand the fundamental rules of this world, which was great and all, however, I would’ve also loved it if it had come with common sense.

There were definitely some rules that weren’t that generally known after all.

“My skill? It’s thanks to it that I was able to survive alone all this time. I do better when acting alone.”
“I see. You also have a strange title, but given that you haven’t committed any crimes I’ll let you through, as long as you pay the toll. Still, I don’t want you hogging all the work in this town either. So tell me, what are you planning on doing?”
“I’m thinking of becoming an adventurer.”
“With your abilities I think that’s a given. Though I’m a bit concerned that you’re a girl…”
“I can’t do anything besides fighting…”

Although I said that, there were other things that I could do apart from fighting.

For example, the sword I’d created could be classified as quite the high-grade weapon! And I could do many other things as well.

Like making Low Grade Potions that were as effective as High Grade Potions.

“Just don’t be reckless. The toll is two large coppers.”

So it’s two large copper coins to pass. I felt a bad feeling washing over me.

“By two large coppers, you mean these, right?”
“That’s right.”
“Can I stay at an inn with this much?”
“Hmm, with two large coppers you can probably find an inn that will let you stay the night. Will you be okay, missy? Can you really make it in this town?”
“I’ll probably be okay. Could I also ask you to teach me how to become an adventurer?” I asked something that had been weighing on my mind.

After all, I’d been killed precisely because I was a loner.

I wasn’t able to randomly talk to strangers on the street, nor was I able to make small talk with store clerks.

Even if, from the perspective of a Demigod, the tension had largely subsided, it was still a hassle.

“When you enter the town, immediately turn left. There you’ll see a big building. You just need to go inside and talk to the clerk there.”
“Is that building like a gathering place for adventurers?”
“That’s right. Though, as you can see I’m just a gatekeeper, I don’t know the exact way to become an adventurer.” The man stated the obvious.

As the saying went, every man knew his business best.

Well, it didn’t matter that he didn’t know the answer. As long as I knew where it was I would make do.

“Thank you. Am I free to go now?” I asked.
“Of course. Don’t die on me, okay!”
“I won’t!”

I’d never once been to the castle’s town, and as such this was my first experience with a town in this world.

I wasn’t going to lie, but I was slightly looking forward to it.
