Today marks the true beginning of my human life.

Thanks to my master, Chang Kai, I have gained a human form, intelligence, and knowledge.

And more than that—he doesn’t hate me for it.

Even after becoming human, the feelings I have for my master remain unchanged.

Things I never understood as a cat, emotions I never noticed before—now, I can see them all clearly.

That winter, he saved my life, and today, he gave me a new one.

No matter what I do, I doubt I’ll ever be able to fully repay this debt. He may not care about such things, but I do—I have to find a way to repay him.

But… will Master truly accept a girl who was once a male cat?

Cats aren’t very smart creatures.

As a cat, I ate like a glutton, simply because I had experienced hunger and abandonment at a young age.

But whether human or feline, nobody wants a fat, lazy slob.

It was only natural for Master to dislike me back then.

The transformation process was painful, but I caught glimpses of Master’s concern and worry through the haze.

He still cares about me.

And that alone… is enough.

Aside from the part where Master got kicked unconscious, the transformation went smoothly.

When it was over, my entire world had changed—

The higher perspective,
The unfamiliar balance of walking on two legs,
And the embarrassing weight pressing on my chest.

My expanded mind was now crammed with all sorts of knowledge—

Language, writing, human thought patterns, basic life skills as a girl…

Even my memories as a cat replayed in vivid detail, allowing me to understand them anew.

I was once a male cat, yet I’ve become a girl—

And I don’t feel the slightest bit of regret.

Just being able to become human is already a miracle.

A divine blessing. A gospel from the heavens.

But just as I gained my humanity, I also had to leave my home.

Because Master’s father suffers from a crippling fear of women.

And so, I had no choice but to follow Haitang home.

Right now, I’m sitting in her family’s living room, explaining my situation to the Chen household.

Haitang is undoubtedly an amazing woman—I always loved sticking close to her even when I was a cat.

But now that I’m human, it’s the other way around—she seems to love hugging me even more.

Her father, Mr. Chen, has a strong, commanding presence.

His square-shaped face carries a strict, military-like aura, which Haitang seems to have inherited to some extent.

“Hmm… I see. I already know about the situation with the Chang family.”

His gaze lingered on my tail, as if still finding it hard to believe.

“A cat spirit, huh… Never thought the world had something this surreal.”

The whole “cat spirit” thing was just a cover story—there was no way I could expose Master’s notebook.

I felt a little guilty lying to the man who had agreed to take me in, but I had no choice but to go along with the story.

“To be honest, until today, even I didn’t know I could take on human form… I have no idea if there are others like me.”

Mr. Chen waved his hand along with a hearty laugh.

“Even if there aren’t, it doesn’t matter. We’ll take care of you—as if you were our own daughter.”

Hearing her father’s approval, Haitang practically pounced on me, wrapping me in a tight hug.

“Thank you, Dad! That means from now on, Tangerine is my little sister! Aah, why is my little Tangerine so soft and cuddly~? Rub rub~”

The Chen family’s house has a modern design, with half the living room exposed under a glass ceiling.

Even with the curtains drawn, the July heat still lingers in the air.

Even with the air conditioning running, the warmth of Haitang’s body pressing against mine feels unbearable.

Cats really hate the heat!

“From now on, you’re our second daughter.”

“Since your name as a cat was Tangerine, how about the human name Chen Ju?”

“No need to be so reserved. Our family is more than capable of supporting another child.”

Chen Ju1…?

It’s simple, but… it fits me well.

The mother, who had been mostly quiet, finally spoke up.

“Tangerine, how old are you this year?”

“About two years old, I think?”

I was abandoned at Master’s door two winters ago, so technically, I’m not even two yet.

Mrs. Chen looked surprised.

“Oh my, oh my… Is it because you were a cat? You look far more mature than a two-year-old child.”

Well, in cat years, I’m already around twenty.

“Then let’s make your legal age fifteen. Anything younger wouldn’t quite match your appearance.”

Mr. Chen took out a pen and jotted something down, then glanced up after seeming to have thought of something.

“Tangerine, you haven’t been to school, have you? How about starting from middle school? Haitang can tutor you during summer break—the basics aren’t too hard to pick up.”

“School…? Am I allowed to?”

The idea left me conflicted.

I understood what “going to school” meant, and I knew education wasn’t cheap.

Being taken in like this was already more kindness than I could ever repay—accepting even more care felt unfair.

Mrs. Chen must have noticed my hesitation. She sat beside me and gently stroked my head.

“Tangerine, you’re our daughter now. There’s no need to be so formal with family.”

Family.

Such a warm and gentle word.

“I want to go to school. I want to experience more of human life.”

Whether it’s the Chang family or the Chen family, I have to work hard to live up to this kindness…

There are so many good people in this world.

Becoming human was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Tears of gratitude slipped down my cheeks.

The human heart is… so soft.

Mr. Chen nodded, satisfied.

“That’s a great answer. Think of it as a life experience.”

Mrs. Chen wiped my tears away with a smile.

“The guest room next to Haitang’s will be your bedroom from now on. If you need anything, just ask us. No need to be shy, okay?”

“Come on, little sis~ Let’s go check out your room!”

“Alright, you two go ahead—I’ll call you when dinner’s ready.”

Haitang dragged me upstairs.

With no direct sunlight, the hallway was noticeably cooler than the living room.

Just as I was about to take a deep breath and enjoy the cool air, Haitang suddenly turned around, pressing me against the wall with one hand above my head.

A kabedon.

I recognized this—this was called kabedon!

But why was she doing it to me?!

I suddenly recalled—Haitang went to Biyang Girls’ Academy.

Growing up in that environment…

There was a high chance she was into girls.

The realization sent a shiver down my spine, and I cautiously looked up at her—

Only to see her smirk widen.

“My dear little sister, what are you so afraid of~?”

“I-I may have started out as a male cat… but I’m a girl now!”

She tilted her head, clearly entertained by my resistance.

“Oh? And?”

“Well… um… girls… and girls… can’t, you know, be together…?”

My voice grew smaller and smaller, until it was barely more than a mosquito’s hum.

“Pfft.”

She burst into laughter at my flustered reaction.

“You’ve only been human for a day, and your little head is already filled with all sorts of strange ideas.”

“Huh? Did I misunderstand something?”

“Obviously.”

She flicked my forehead, making me flinch.

“Relax, I wanted to ask something completely different. Although…”

Her gaze sharpened slightly.

“I think I already know the answer. But let’s hear it from you.”

I blinked in confusion.

“What… question?”

She leaned in closer, her sharp eyes locking onto mine.

“Zhao Lei… is actually Zhao Zhao, isn’t she?”

“!”

What?!

When did we get exposed?!

How does she know?!

She must’ve read the shock in my expression, because she sighed and rubbed her forehead before stepping back.

“So it’s true… You really don’t understand how I figured it out, huh?”

She shook her head, as if disappointed in our lack of deception skills.

“Honestly, their acting was just terrible.”

Raising a single finger, she began listing her deductions.

“First—when Zhao Lei saw me, her face turned completely pale. If she were a total stranger, why would she be so scared? It’s not like I’m some kind of man-eating demon.”

“Second—I’ve known Zhao Zhao since we were kids, and not once has he ever mentioned having a cousin. Even if he did, they definitely wouldn’t be close. And yet, this ‘cousin’ of his not only went straight to Commander’s house alone, but even went out to buy lingerie for you? That’s not how distant relatives act.”

“Third—that girl had zero awareness of how to behave like a proper lady. She wore only panties and stockings under that hoodie. Any normal girl would’ve at least worn safety shorts, but only a clueless pervert like Zhao Zhao would walk around dressed like that.”

Hearing her analysis, I suddenly realized…

Yeah.

It was full of holes.

“Then… why didn’t you expose them back there?”

“Oh, because this is way more fun.”

Haitang smirked.

“That whole ‘cat spirit’ thing was obviously a lie too, right? Commander must have some kind of special ability or item. Instead of ruining the game, I figured I’d sit back and watch how things play out.”

“Haitang, you’re incredible…”

I couldn’t help but admire her.

When it came to both strength and intelligence, neither Master nor Zhao Zhao could ever hope to beat her.

“Ah, but you better not go snitching to Commander, okay? Because from now on—”

Her hand cupped my cheek, and she grinned playfully.

“You’re my little sister.”

“Yes, Onee-sama!”

…Sorry, Master.

In times like this, loyalty comes second to survival.
