The old Daoist was furious.
In his eyes, this adorably foolish little girl, who would one day become his disciple, had obviously been deceived by that ugly mountain bumpkin with no figure whatsoever and a face practically dripping with crafty intent!
‘No, I absolutely have to save her from this sea of suffering!’
“Little girl, this old Daoist advises you to know your place.”
“Hm?” Lilith raised her head with a bewildered look.
“This little girl here… right, what was your name again?”
“Liana.”
“Liana? A fine name.” The old Daoist smiled warmly at Liana before immediately returning to a stern expression, fixing Lilith with a serious gaze. “I do not care what your intentions are, but there is one thing you must understand.”
“And what would that be?”
“It is naturally the fact that Liana’s future status will be completely different from yours!”
“Oh? How so?” Lilith arched her brow.
“Hmph. You should know that Liana will one day become a disciple of my Immortal Cloud Pavilion. Deceiving her is not the same as deceiving ordinary people. The consequences will be extremely severe!”
“Oh?” Rather than feeling intimidated by the old Daoist’s threat, Lilith became interested instead. “How severe?”
“Heh heh… probably something along the lines of being denied reincarnation for all eternity.” The old Daoist let out a sinister cackle. Of course, it was nowhere near that terrifying. The Immortal Cloud Pavilion was not some evil sect. They would never casually condemn someone to eternal damnation.
Still, in order to frighten this hateful little girl, he deliberately exaggerated the consequences as much as possible.
“Denied reincarnation for all eternity?” Lilith instead revealed a strange expression.
“Hmph, frightened now, are you? Little girl, I am telling you, if you turn back now…”
“That’s it?” Lilith interrupted him while absentmindedly digging at her nose. “I thought it was something serious. Tch.”
‘That’s it? Tch?’ The old Daoist froze. Wasn’t that outcome already miserable enough? Hadn’t he heard that ordinary mortals feared nothing more than losing the chance at reincarnation and never having another life? Could it be this little girl simply did not believe in reincarnation at all?
“The truth is… I’ve already long since become someone who can never reincarnate anyway.” Lilith tilted her head toward the heavens, her voice suddenly ancient and weathered. After all, she was immortal and indestructible now. There was no next life waiting for her. In fact, there no longer existed anyone capable of truly killing her.
“Holy hell, this girl’s even better at acting cool than me.” The old Daoist blew his beard and widened his eyes. Looking at Lilith in this moment, he unexpectedly felt utterly defeated in the art of showing off. “Since you’re so stubborn, then I can only do things the hard way.”
A sharp glint flashed through the old Daoist’s eyes. Since this little girl refused to appreciate kindness, teaching her a lesson personally should not be a problem.
“No!” Before the old Daoist could make a move, Liana stepped in front of him. “You are not allowed to hurt Mountain Ghost.”
“Sigh, Little Liana, you’ve misunderstood. I was only…”
“I didn’t misunderstand. You were clearly trying to hurt Mountain Ghost. And also, don’t call me Little Liana. We’re not close.” Liana puffed her cheeks angrily as she spoke.
“Then… fine.” Seeing that his future disciple had become upset, the old Daoist could only temporarily give up on the idea. Still, that did not stop him from giving that scammer girl a small lesson.
One hand folded behind his back as he secretly formed a hand seal. A flash of spiritual light flickered. At the center of the temple, the empty eyes of the massive Buddha statue suddenly gained a faint glimmer of life. As though it had awakened.
“I… am so hungry…”
The ground trembled softly. The gigantic Buddha statue suddenly rose to its feet, its face twisted into a terrifying expression.
Lilith turned around in astonishment.
“You… look quite delicious.” It stared at Lilith with a vicious gaze, its voice hoarse and horrifying, like an evil ghost crawling out from the depths of hell itself.
“Oh my, how could such a demonic creature appear within a humble little temple like this?” The old Daoist immediately put on a face full of *panic* and hurriedly shielded Liana behind him. “Do not be afraid, Little Liana. Master will protect you.”
After saying that, he instantly switched to a regretful expression and looked toward Lilith.
“What a pity. I did not eat enough for dinner tonight, so I do not have any spare strength left. Little girl, you can only pray for your own good fortune now. However, I have heard that demons like this only attack bad people. So if you are truly a good person, then surely you would not fear such a monster, right?”
Having said that, he dragged the still-dazed Liana several steps backward, leaving Lilith alone to face the terrifying demon.
‘Hmph hmph, trying to compete with me? You’re still far too inexperienced.’ The old Daoist felt immensely pleased with himself. He could hardly wait to watch that hateful little scammer who dared deceive his future precious disciple get scared out of her wits.
When the time came, he would swoop in to save her. Not only would it establish a glorious and righteous image of himself in his precious disciple’s heart, it would also teach that little fraudster a lesson. Truly killing two birds with one stone!
‘As expected, I really am a genius.’
“Mountain Ghost, hurry and run!” Meanwhile, Liana had already cried out anxiously. She had never seen a monster like this before, so she could not help worrying whether Lilith would be able to handle it.
Yet Lilith merely stared blankly at the grotesque Buddha statue without moving at all.
“Little girl, hurry and run. If you don’t escape now, it will be too late.” The old Daoist also called out with an *anxious* expression. Inside, however, he felt indescribably delighted. ‘Hahaha, look at her. She’s been scared stupid, hasn’t she? I would like to see what she does next.’
“So monsters really do exist…” The dazed Lilith finally snapped back to reality. She looked at the vicious-looking Buddha statue, then lowered her head toward the half-eaten roasted rabbit meat still in her hand.
As though she had suddenly remembered something, her eyes instantly lit up. Then she raised her head and extended her small palm toward the now even more terrifying, fanged demon, her face filled with anticipation. “Give me cumin.”
The demon: ???
The old Daoist: ???
What did she just say? Cumin? What cumin?
Seeing that the demon seemed to have completely frozen up and failed to respond, Lilith frowned and repeated herself. “Can you understand me? Hurry up and give me cumin.”
Of course they understood. Cumin. That seasoning, right? But the problem was why the hell would anyone ask for cumin at a moment like this?! This train of thought was impossible to follow!
The old Daoist furiously complained in his heart. For a moment, he genuinely had no idea what he was supposed to do next. As a result, the *monster* he controlled also remained rooted in place.
After waiting for quite some time without any reaction, Lilith impatiently furrowed her brows. “You don’t have cumin?”
‘As if it would! What kind of monster carried cumin around for no reason?!’ The old Daoist decided to stop trying to understand this little scammer’s bizarre thought process and simply proceed with the scare.
“ROOOAR!” The ferocious Buddha statue opened its massive blood-soaked maw, and that thunderous terrifying roar instantly… “AAAGH!” …turned into a miserable scream. Along with a loud, heavy thud.
The Buddha statue collapsed onto the ground while clutching its head, staring blankly at Lilith as she approached while gripping a thick, long black club. Its eyes were filled with terror. It looked exactly like an ignorant young maiden about to be violated.
“As a monster, you don’t even have cumin, and you still dare come out acting tough?” Lilith shouted furiously before slamming the black club against the ground with a deafening bang. Instantly, spiderweb-like cracks spread across the floor.
The Buddha statue trembled violently.
“Then hurry up and go find me some cumin!” Lilith glared and barked.
The Buddha statue nodded frantically before scrambling out the door in a panic and vanishing without a trace.
Nearby, the old Daoist still stood frozen with one hand forming a seal, utterly dumbfounded. Watching the fleeing Buddha statue, he experienced, for the first time in his life, a crisis regarding the nature of reality itself.
‘It ran away? The *monster* I created with the Animation Technique actually ran away just like that? And it didn’t even look back once! Wasn’t that thing supposed to be mindless? Then why the hell was it scared into fleeing by someone else?!’
