“That’s a secret.”
She was supposed to be trapped by those hellish flames, but had somehow escaped, and now faced them with a daring smile.
Being a banned Magic Ware, Purgatory Blaze’s power was on a level of its own, and even the Twelve Apostles or Nine Wisemen had to be careful around it.
But Mira had a way to break through those flames, through the power of her Summoning Armor Vermillion Frame.
That power, gained through the Spirit King’s Divine Protection, allowed her to resist even the fires of Purgatory Blaze. And combined with her Sage Art Ground Shrink, she had quickly gained on the pair and struck them by surprise.
“What the hell was that…”
Mira’s surprise attack had been painful, and the assassin took a while to recover, but eventually he stopped rolling and sprung back on his feet, glaring at Mira as if demanding to know how she had gotten there.
He was also well acquainted with the power of Purgatory Blaze.
But Mira did not see a point in answering their questions, instead saying, “By the way, I’ll be handling this now,” while showing what she was holding.
“What… When did you..!”
The assassin instantly looked down, realizing he no longer had the Spirit Bomb his master had given him. It had vanished from his hands completely, verifying that Mira was truly in possession of it now, having snatched it during the surprise attack.
“I can’t believe you got us like this. We really should’ve been more careful.”
Mira had not only gotten out of the blazing inferno in the training area, but had neutralized the Spirit Bomb’s threat. The man in the coat had to salute that accomplishment. He would have chosen a different plan if only he knew that the Spirit Queen could be such a tough opponent.
“But this is as far as you’ll get.”
The man in the coat laughed for a bit, before instantly becoming serious again.
His eyes were locked on Mira, not showing any weakness or hesitation, putting on a set of gloves with long claws attached to it. He was not looking at Mira like a fellow human, but a target he needed to eliminate.
“Hmm, so you’re finally getting serious.”
Mira remained unfazed by those cold murderous stares, as her own face also began to contort.
In her case, it was half the grin of a mad scientist, and half the desire to beat them to a pulp as they were responsible for killing the friends of her own dear friend.
“Eagle, you hold back those knights. I’ll take care of her.”
The man in the coat kept looking at Mira as he ordered his pupil to deal with the Ashen Knights.
“Huh..?! Alright…I’ll do that.”
The assassin, who seemed to be called Eagle, did not seem very excited about having to deal with the Ashen Knights, but he could not go against his master, so he had to agree.
He quickly threw knives at the Ashen Knights, who responded by raising their shields. Once the knives struck the shields, they exploded violently.
Their power was such that the shields cracked after enduring the explosions.
But they would not be taken down so easily, their shields quickly regenerating as they charged at Eagle.
“Please hurry up, Masteeer!”
Eagle broke into a mad dash, trying to maintain his range advantage, jumping and ducking the Ashen Knight’s violent attacks, essentially being chased around.
Then again, each of the Ashen Knights was on par with a rank A adventurer, so being able to remain untouched even with five of them on his tail showed Eagle’s own skill.
“I can’t afford to lose another of my useless pupils, so I’ll make this quick.”
The man in the coat, Eagle’s master, let out a sigh as he watched how Eagle ran around, then slowly walked toward Mira, still keeping the extent of his power hidden.
“You sound troubled by that. Then I might as well relieve you of your worries.”
If both of them agreed to be captured, then they would not have to worry about anything anymore. So Mira smiled as she activated Holy Frame and headed forward toward the man in the coat as well.
Once the distance between them closed down to three meters, they moved at the same time.
He swung his fists rapidly, wanting to end it in a single strike. There was also some spell imbued into the claws, as they began to glow in a sicklish color.
Meanwhile Mira blocked that attack with a partially summoned shield. Being able to summon defensive shields like that with no lead-up or wait time was the mark of the strongest summoner.
The man in the coat had fought countless opponents, but he had never faced a summoner like her. The claws pierced through the shield, but most of his momentum was absorbed, so he had to jump back, still wary of any of Mira’s movements.
“So you can do that as well, that’s so annoying…”
No toxin had any use against summons. Especially if it only struck a shield that vanished right after use.
Still, he kept his eyes open and attentive, wanting to figure out how to predict Mira’s partial summoning.
(Hmm… He’ll take note of anything I plan now.)
She tried moving a bit, shifting her center of mass slightly or waving her fingertips, and it was clear he noticed all of it.
No matter how she moved, he would know what to do in response. If she lowered her guard just a bit, he would know and rush in to strike her.
His eyesight and reaction speed were incredible.
As a test, she tried using a partial summoning.
“…!”
The instant Mira’s eyes moved to designate the summon origin, he was already following her gaze, and jumped forward as soon as the black sword appeared behind him.
