“Th-Th-Th-Th-That would be…a-a-a-all… Th-They’re registered…n-now.”

The guild’s receptionist’s voice is really shaky as she hands over collars with red jewels to Olivia. I’ve seen this happen before.

Olivia fastens the collars, one on the Cruel Predator’s flower stem, and the other around the Copper Spider’s belly. Now they’re both officially Olivia’s Servants.

Registering monsters as Servants also includes giving them a name, so the Cruel Predator is Erika1 now, and the Copper Spider is Akane2.

I actually checked with Aria to see if the Copper Spider had a name already, just in case, but she said no, and that we should come up with a name. Her exact words were “There’s already so many of them I couldn’t possibly think of enough names and remember them.”

“Erika, Akane, let’s be friends, alright?”
“!”
“Shaa.”

It seems both of them have recognized Olivia as their master, so that’s good.

“I’ll go check out the requests and stuff now. Don’t worry about me and just do whatever you want, Natalia.” Saying that, Olivia goes over to the bulletin board with requests alone. I guess she’s trying to be nice.

Then again, it’s almost time. I look to the guild’s entrance and see that they just came in. One of them sees me and trots over to greet me.

“Natalia, welcome back.”
“Hello again.”

Mir has grown even sturdier than I last saw her half a year ago, especially when it comes to her equipment. And it’s not just her armor that looks better, but her weapon is a proper greatsword now, which should really let her true strength shine.

“He seems to be doing alright too.”
“Well, you can say that.”

Danny arrives walking a bit slower, and greets me waving his hand.

I had sent letters to both of them before telling them I’d be back, since I figured it’d be nice to meet up again.

We order some food and drinks from the guild’s canteen and then sit down. Erika can’t use chairs so she’s just standing next to me, while Akane is on my lap, with her front legs propped on the table.

“A Cruel Predator and a Copper Spider, I’m sure they must be quite strong, considering they’re ranked C as monsters.” Danny looks at Erika standing next to me.

Also, Clarissa is away hunting in the forest, gathering food for our supplies later.

“I just fed her on a whim and it somehow ended up like this.”

I never had any intention of taming Erika, I just thought it’d be nice if I could harvest her fruits without getting attacked. And I befriended Akane while I was bartering for Aria’s Steel Silk.

While I did enjoy their company, I never thought we’d end up like this. I’m a monster myself so trying to adopt one would be weird anyway.

“By the way, you’ve only started talking more casually with me since the last time we met, but you didn’t worry about that when talking to Danny since way back, right?”

I almost choked on my drink.

“Though I guess it’s alright. I’m sure something must’ve happened, and there was never a right moment to change that between us.”
“Um, err, no…”
“And you never cared about that around Ruri. Even though we’ve been friends for way longer…”
“Mir?”
“What?”
“Are you upset?”
“I’m not upset. Just a little jelly3.”

Wh-what should I do?
Danny, help.

“…”

He just looked away! He’s useless!
No but seriously, what should I do?
Umm…should I invite her to go shopping?

But I don’t really have much free time since we’re leaving tomorrow, and I can’t really walk around the city with Erika and Akane in tow. Maybe I can give her some sort of present? Or will she get mad that I’m trying to evade her questions with presents?

While I’m desperately trying to find a way to amend my friendship with Mir, I notice that Akane is becoming restless on my lap.

“What happened?”
“!”

Akane raises one of her front legs so I look at where she’s pointing and see Olivia standing in front of the request bulletin board while two guys talk to her.

“Hey, I’ve never seen you around before. Are you new?”
“Why don’t you join our party?”

They look slightly older than her. Olivia is just as beautiful as her mother Ophelia, so I guess it’s natural that she attracts that kind of attention too.

“What’s your rank?”
“Umm…still F.”
“I’m a veteran, so I can teach you all sorts of things.”

Olivia registered as an adventurer to inherit possession over me from Ophelia, but since she never did any work as an adventurer her rank never went up.

“Did you say her name is Olivia? And she’s Ophelia’s daughter, huh. Those scumbags must be clueless.”
“That reminds me of someone I know though.”
“Yeah.”

Mir and I look at Danny, and he just turns away.

“You’re a sorceress then? Wouldn’t you like to have a frontliner?”

Olivia is wearing the cape she got for graduating, so they probably think she’s a sorceress. Or well, I guess she actually is a sorceress.

“Hmm… How about we fight once and if you win we go together?” After looking around her, Olivia tells them that.
“I feel like I heard of a similar suggestion before too.”
“Yeah.”

I guess she’s just like her mother when dealing with things like this as well. They quickly come to an agreement and head to the training arena behind the guild for a quick match.

Olivia looks like she’s in a really good mood, which makes sense considering her addiction to fighting, but I probably should follow them just to make sure she’s safe.

“Don’t worry about them. They might talk big, but actually they’re still at rank E.”
“I’ve seen them at my store before too. They tried to buy the weirdest mismatch of equipment I’ve ever seen simply because they thought it looked cool, but they were too broke to afford it in the end.”

It seems like Danny and Mir don’t have the best impression of them.

Still, rank E, huh? Considering F is the lowest, I guess they do have some ability to fight monsters. Whether they can actually win, though, remains unknown.

Actually, considering what happened to Ruri, maybe they are strong, but other aspects are holding them back.

“”Nah, no way.””
Danny and Mir quickly shoot that idea down.

I guess they’re straight out bad.

“I think I saw Olivia use some sort of mobility magic last time, but is she strong? Actually, she’s Ophelia’s daughter so I guess I shouldn’t even ask.”

Oh yeah, Danny hasn’t seen Olivia fight before.

“She actually loves fighting powerful opponents and never stops training. And she was the strongest student of Ingralowe’s Magic Academy too, even in a fight without constraints.”
“She’s basically a prodigy then.”
“She was already killing Clamp Boars at twelve years old too.”
“Yeah, she shattered the skull of one with a single punch.”
“Eek, that’s actually scary.”

Well, I guess she can handle herself.

“Hmmm?”

I feel like I forgot to consider something… It’s obvious those two guys are weaklings too, so I shouldn’t be worried about Olivia losing.

And Olivia looked like she was having fun.
Olivia looked like she was having fun…
Olivia looked like she was having fun4?!

“She’s going to hold back, right?!”
“Ah!”
“Oh s̲h̲i̲t̲5!”

The three of us jump out of our seats to run to the training arena when we see a bright flash through the door leading there.

Welp, I guess we’re late.
